''Gonzalezia'' is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Asteraceae. Its native range is northern and western Mexico. The genus name of ''Gonzalezia'' is in honour of María del Socorro González Elizondo (b. 1953), a Mexican plant taxonomist with a focus on Cyperaceae The Cyperaceae are a family of graminoid (grass-like), monocotyledonous flowering plants known as sedges. Flowering plants are plants that bear flowers and fruits, and form the clade Angiospermae (), commonly called angiosperms. The term "angiosperm" is derived from the Greek words ('container, vessel') and ('seed'), and refers to those plants that produce their seeds enclosed within a fruit.
