It is also a Senegalese and Bissau Guinean surname, borrowed from Portuguese, sharing the same spelling (). Bafétimbi Gomis
Bafétimbi Gomis (; born 6 August 1985) is a French professional footballer who plays as a striker for Süper Lig club Galatasaray. Gomis played youth football with Saint-Étienne before making his professional debut for the club in 2004, also spending time on loan at Troyes in Ligue 2. In 2009, he joined Saint-Étienne's Derby du Rhone rivals Lyon for a fee of €13 million. Over five seasons at the Stade Gerland, he played 244 official matches and scored 95 goals, winning the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions in 2012. In 2014, he moved to Premier League club Swansea City on a free transfer. After a loan back in France at Marseille, he signed for Galatasaray, where he was top scorer as they won the Süper Lig in 2018. Morgaro Lima Gomis (born 14 July 1985) is a Senegalese professional footballer who last played as a defensive midfielder for Kelantan United. Starting his career in France, Gomis spent most of his early career in English non-League football before moving to Scottish Football League side Cowdenbeath. His performances earned him a move to Dundee United in January 2007, where he exceeded expectations and was young player of the year for 2007–08. He was part of the Dundee United side that won the Scottish Cup in 2010 and was the first African to have played 100 times for the club. He left the club when his contract expired at the end of the 2010–11 season to join Football League Championship side Birmingham City. Amigo Alfred Junior Gomis (born 5 September 1993) is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Italian club Como on loan from the French club Rennes, and the Senegal national team. Bedsenté Gomis (born 14 April 1988) is a semi-professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Gosport Borough. Career A trainee of both US Quevilly and RC Lens, Gomis made his senior debuts with the latter's reserve team in season 2005–06 season. He moved to Spain two and a half seasons later, signing with CD Puertollano in Segunda División B. In August 2010 Gomis signed with UD Almería, being assigned to the reserves also in the third level. After appearing sparingly with the Andalusians in the campaign (576 minutes overall), he was released. Joseph Gomis (born 2 July 1978) is a French former professional basketball player. Professional career Gomis started his professional career with ALM Évreux in 1996, playing there for five seasons. He spent the 2001–02 season with SLUC Nancy, winning the Korać Cup in its final edition. Between 2002 and 2010, Gomis played in Spain for Breogán, Valladolid and Unicaja Málaga. For the 2010–11 season he signed with Spirou Charleroi of Belgium. From 2011 to 2014 he played with Limoges CSP, winning the French championship in the 2013–14 season. José Melchor Gomis y Colomer (6 January 1791 – 4 August 1836) was a Spanish Romantic composer. Career He was born in Ontinyent, Vall d'Albaida, Valencia Province. He was director of music for an artillery regiment during the Napoleonic Wars. An early melodrame by Gomis for voice and orchestra was performed at Valencia in 1817.Dowling (n.d.) He wrote the music of the ''Himno de Riego'', named after the rebellious General Riego (1784-1823) and since used as the national anthem by various republican governments of Spain. Rémi Gomis (born 14 February 1984) is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Born in France, he represented the Senegal national team at international level. Club career Gomis began his career with Stade Lavallois and signed for Stade Malherbe Caen in summer 2007. Oswald Thomas Colman Gomis ( Sinhala: ඔස්වල්ඩ් තෝමස් කොල්මන් ගෝමිස්) (born 12 December 1932) is the former Roman Catholic Archbishop of Colombo and the former Chancellor of the University of Colombo (2002-2021). Msgr. Gomis' previous post was as the Bishop of Anuradhapura having been appointed in 1996. He was also the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo from 1968 to 1996. He formally relinquished office and retired on 5 August 2009.
