Dadin Kowa Dam
The Dadin Kowa Dam is situated in Yamaltu Deba local government area of Gombe State in the North east part of Nigeria. The dam is located about 37 kilometers to the east of Gombe town and 5km froDadin kowavillage, and provides drinking water for the town. The dam was completed by the federal government in 1984, with the goal of providing irrigation and electricity for the planned Gongola sugar plantation project. Description The reservoir which is designed to have a water capacity of 2.8 billion cubic meters making it the 2nd largest dam in the countryasand a surface area of 300 square kilometers, and has potential as a source of fish. 26,000 people were displaced by the reservoir, receiving little assistance for resettlement. The reservoir is suspected to be a major breeding site for black flies, which cause river blindness. Gombe State ( ff, Leyddi Gommbe 𞤤𞤫𞤴𞤣𞤭 𞤺𞤮𞤥𞥆𞤦𞤫) is a state in northeastern Nigeria, bordered to the north and northeast by the state of Borno and Yobe, to the south by Taraba State, to the southeast by Adamawa State, and to the west by Bauchi State. Gombe or La Gombe is a municipality (''commune'') in the Lukunga district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was formerly known as Kalina, after Lieutenant E. Kabir Muhammad Haruna popularly known as Kabiru Gombe is a Nigerian Islamic scholar and preacher. Samson Gombe
Samson Gombe FAAS FTWAS (5 November 1938 – 4 February 1989) was a Kenyan professor of Biological Systems and Organisms. He was a Fellow of Third World Academy of Sciences and a Founding Fellow and Secretary of African Academy of Sciences. Early life and education Gombe was born on 5 November 1938 in Seme, Kisumu, Kenya. He attended Maseno School, Makerere College between 1958 and 1960. Then educated at the University of London (1961-9167) and Cornell University (1969-1972). Intense Tropical Cyclone Gombe was a strong tropical cyclone that affected Mozambique. It became the first storm to make a major landfall in Nampula Province in Mozambique since Cyclone Jokwe in 2008.
