Golden Hockey Stick
The Golden Hockey Stick ( cs, Zlatá hokejka) is an award given to the top Czech ice hockey player. It was originally awarded to the top player in the Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League, beginning in the 1968–69 season. After the Czech Republic and Slovakia became separate countries in 1993, it was awarded to the top Czech player anywhere in the world. Jaromír Jágr has won this award 12 times, more than any other player. Dominik Hašek and David Pastrňák have won it five times. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. The team which scores the most goals is declared the winner. In a formal game, each team has six skaters on the ice at a time, barring any penalties, one of whom is the goaltender. Ice hockey is a full contact sport. Peter Šťastný
Peter Šťastný (; born 18 September 1956), also known colloquially as "Peter the Great" and "Stosh", is a Slovak-Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1980 to 1995. Šťastný is the second-highest scorer of the 1980s, after Wayne Gretzky. During his time with the Quebec Nordiques, Šťastný became a Canadian citizen. From 2004 to 2014, he served as a Member of the European Parliament for Slovakia. During his NHL career, he played with the Quebec Nordiques, New Jersey Devils, and St. Louis Blues. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998 and List of National Hockey League statistical leaders#Regular season points, ranks 34th all time in NHL points (and List of NHL statistical leaders by country#Slovakia, second overall for players born in Slovakia). Miloš Holaň
Miloš Holaň (born April 22, 1971) is a retired Czech professional ice hockey player and currently the head coach of HC Poruba of the 1st Czech Republic Hockey League, the second tier in the Czech Republic. He played 49 games in the National Hockey League between 1993 and 1996 with the Philadelphia Flyers and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, as well as several seasons in the Czechoslovak and Czech Extraliga. Internationally Holaň played for the Czechoslovakian national junior team at two World Junior Championships, and with the Czech Republic at two World Championships. After retiring in 2000 he turned to coaching, and has worked for multiple teams across Europe. Playing career Holaň was drafted 77th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. Róbert Švehla
Róbert Švehla ( , ; born January 2, 1969) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the NHL for 9 seasons from 1995 until 2003 for the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs. Career Švehla was drafted 78th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, but he did not play a game for them before moving on to the Florida Panthers. Bedřich Ščerban
Bedřich Ščerban (born 31 May 1964, in Jihlava) is a Czech former professional ice hockey defenceman. He competed at three Winter Olympics. Ščerban began his career with HC Dukla Jihlava of the Czech Extraliga in 1986. In 1991, he moved to Finland's SM-liiga, spending one season with Tappara before moving the Sweden's Elitserien with Brynäs IF. He returned to the Czech Republic in 1996, splitting the year with HC Vsetín and a second spell with Dukla Jihlava. He would spend the next seven seasons in Germany, playing for the Essen Mosquitoes and EHC Freiburg. Vladimír Růžička (ice Hockey B
Vladimír Růžička (; born 6 June 1963) is a Czech ice hockey coach and former professional player. Růžička was twice named the top player in the Czechoslovak Elite League, and was on the gold medal team in the Ice Hockey World Championship in 1985 and 1998 Olympic Games. He also played 233 games in the National Hockey League (NHL). Since 2008, Růžička has been the head coach of both HC Slavia Praha and the Czech national ice hockey team. Playing career Růžička started his career with Czechoslovak side Litvínov, making his first appearance at the age of 16 and scoring after just 10 seconds in his first game, against Dukla Jihlava. Igor Liba (born November 4, 1960, in Prešov, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey player, who played on the 1992 Bronze Medal-winning Olympic Hockey team for Czechoslovakia, and lives in Košice, Slovakia. Igor Liba was inducted into the Slovak Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005.
