Golden Eagle Award For Best Television Motion Picture
The Golden Eagle Award for Best Television Motion Picture (Russian: Золотой Орёл для лучший игровой телевизионный фильм) is one of twenty award categories presented annually by the National Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of Russia. It is one of the Golden Eagle Awards, which were conceived by Nikita Mikhalkov as a counterweight to the annual Nika Awards given by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences. Each year the members of the academy choose three nominees from among television films (movies directly released to television), which have been popular in Russia since the 1950s because of their inexpensive production. The movies therefore typically have only Russian titles. The category excludes motion pictures and documentaries, which have their own categories. The first film to be awarded was ''Spetsnaz''. The Golden Eagle Award (russian: link=no, премия Золотой Орёл) is an award given by the National Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of Russia to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry, directors, actors, and writers. Modelled after the American Golden Globe Awards, the formal ceremony at which the awards are presented is one of the most prominent award ceremonies in Russia, alongside the Nika Award. The national Russian award is given out in 20 categories each January for motion pictures and TV series produced in Russia during the previous year. The awarding statuette is a silver eagle, originally made from copper with a jade pedestal, and was designed by sculptor Viktor Mitroshin. The design was later altered by the Spanish company Carrera y Carrera. ''Fart'' (russian: Фарца́) is a Russian criminal drama about ''fartsovka'' (a widespread phenomenon in the USSR from the 1950s-1980s). In early 2017 ''Fartsa'' became one of the first Russian TV series to be sold to the world's largest American online video service, Netflix. ''The Idiot'' (russian: Идиот) is a costume drama TV series of Vladimir Bortko produced by Telekanal Rossiya in 2003, based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1869 novel of the same title. The series' script is very close to Dostoevsky's original text, and the series features well-known Russian actors. According to bonus materials included on the DVD, in order to improve authenticity, serious efforts were made to capture the spirit of the time, through proper way of speaking, and through very careful selection of costumes for the actors to wear. The series was branded by the novel's original pre-1920s orthography title "идіотъ" (in all caps) instead of the current "идиот" as one will find it on the bookshelves in Russia (to promote the atmosphere of the tsarist time when the film's plot takes place).
