Golden Bay Air Limited is a small airline based at Tākaka Aerodrome in Tākaka, New Zealand. The airline currently operates three light aircraft from Tākaka to Wellington and Karamea, and also from Nelson to Tākaka and Karamea with connecting road shuttle services to the Abel Tasman National Park, the Heaphy Track in the Kahurangi National Park and to and from Tākaka township. Other services provided by the airline include charter flights around New Zealand flown on demand and preset scenic routes around the national parks as well as Farewell Spit. History Golden Bay Air originated in November 2005 as Zephair Limited, and flights began in 2006 under the name Capital Air. The name of the company was legally changed to Capital Air Bookings Ltd in September of that year, and the airline changed its name to the one currently used in May 2009. Tākaka Aerodrome
The Tākaka Aerodrome serves the town of Tākaka, in the South Island of New Zealand. Description Tākaka Aerodrome is northwest of the town. State Highway 60 runs just south of Runway 36. It was established in 1940 and is owned by the Tasman District Council. There are two runways at the aerodrome. Runway 18/36 runs north–south and is long and wide. Runway 11/29 second crosses the runway 18/36 in a south-east to north-west direction and is long. Motueka Aerodrome
Motueka Aerodrome is the airport serving Motueka, New Zealand, and is owned and managed by Tasman District Council. The current runway is 729 metres long and 11 metres wide with an asphalt surface. This is an adequate length to operate Piper Navajo aircraft. The aerodrome has no control tower, but hangars and refuelling facilities are available. Karamea Aerodrome
The Karamea Aerodrome serves the town of Karamea, in the South Island of New Zealand. It is a non certificated aerodrome located around northwest of the town. History Air services after 1929 earthquake The Murchison earthquake of 17 June 1929 caused severe damage in the Karamea area, with all roads in the district closed and nearly all bridges damaged. The road from Westport to Karamea was severely damaged by large landslides which cut the community's road link for about two years. The earthquake disrupted efforts underway at the time to control an outbreak of diptheria in the settlement and on 19 June, serum was delivered by air, with the aircraft landing on the beach. On 1 July 1929, a flight from Westport to Karamea brought a shortwave radio transmitter and radio operator to the town to help restore communications.
