The group also performs as a chamber orchestra, a festival opera company, a chamber ensemble, and a contemporary ensemble. Since its formation, the group has toured internationally, performing in Europe, South America, China, Macau, and the Azores. The ensemble has appeared throughout the world on television and radio and has given concerts in many locations from the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh to the Manaus Opera House in the Brazilian rainforest. In recent years, the ensemble has performed annually at the Whitworth Coffee Concert series in Manchester and has toured nationally as part of their Contemporary series. The Ensemble has produced a number of recordings of both classical and contemporary works, initially under the Meridian (record label), Meridian label, and more recently with Naxos Records. Artistic direction of the Goldberg Ensemble has recently been taken over by the ...

Goldberg–Sachs Theorem
The Goldberg–Sachs theorem is a result in Einstein's theory of general relativity about vacuum solutions of the Einstein field equations relating the existence of a certain type of congruence with algebraic properties of the Weyl tensor. More precisely, the theorem states that ''a vacuum solution of the Einstein field equations will admit a shear-free null geodesic congruence if and only if the Weyl tensor is algebraically special.'' The theorem is often used when searching for algebraically special vacuum solutions. Shear-Free Rays A ray is a family of geodesic light-like curves. That is tangent vector field l^a is null and geodesic: l_a l^a = 0 and l^b \nabla_b l^a = 0. At each point, there is a (nonunique) 2D spatial slice of the tangent space orthogonal to l^a. It is spanned by a complex null vector m^a and its complex conjugate \bar^a. If the metric is time positive, then the metric projected on the slice is \tilde^ = -m^a \bar^b - \bar^a m^b. Goldberg and Sachs consider ...

Goldberg Magazine
''Goldberg Magazine'' was a Spanish-based bimonthly magazine devoted to early music and Baroque music. History and profile ''Goldberg Magazine'' was started in 1997. The magazine was initially published in bilingual English/Spanish and English/French versions. Starting September 2003, the magazine published three separate editions in English, French and Spanish and in 2004 it went from four to six issues per year. ''Goldberg Magazine'' launched a website called GoldbergWeb.com -- "the early-music portal"—to diversify communication channels for lovers of early music. On 21 November 2008 Goldberg Ediciones announced that it was suspending publication of the magazine due to financial difficulties. Then it folded on the same date. The website was also shut down. Goldberg Machine
A Rube Goldberg machine, named after American cartoonist Rube Goldberg, is a chain reaction-type machine or contraption intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and (impractically) overly complicated way. Usually, these machines consist of a series of simple unrelated devices; the action of each triggers the initiation of the next, eventually resulting in achieving a stated goal. In the United Kingdom, a similar contrivance is referred to as a "Heath Robinson contraption" after cartoons by the illustrator W. Heath Robinson. The design of such a "machine" is often presented on paper and would be impossible to implement in actuality. More recently, such machines are being fully constructed for entertainment (for example, a breakfast scene in '' Peewee's Big Adventure'') and in Rube Goldberg competitions. Over the years, the expression has expanded to mean any confusing or overly complicated system. News headlines include, but are not limited to, "Is Rep. Bi ...

Goldberg Test
Goldberg test may refer to any of various psychiatric tests used to assess mental health in general or as screening tools for specific mental disorders e.g. depression or bipolar disorder. Goldberg, after whom some psychiatric tests are named, might be one of two psychiatrists who share the same last name: Ivan Goldberg, an American psychiatrist, and Sir David Goldberg, a British psychiatrist. Psychiatric screening tests generally don't substitute getting help from professionals. __TOC__ Tests developed by Ivan K. Goldberg *Goldberg Depression Test is an 18-question screening tool for depression. *Goldberg Mania Scale is an 18-question screening test for mania. Tests developed by Sir David Goldberg *General Health Questionnaire or Goldberg Health Questionnaire (GHQ) developed in 1972 in its initial format as a 60-question test (GHQ-60) with a four-point scale for each question. It is used to measure the risk of developing psychiatric disorders. Other forms of GHQ are: GHQ-30, GHQ ...

Goldberg Polyhedron
In mathematics, and more specifically in polyhedral combinatorics, a Goldberg polyhedron is a convex polyhedron made from hexagons and pentagons. They were first described in 1937 by Michael Goldberg (1902–1990). They are defined by three properties: each face is either a pentagon or hexagon, exactly three faces meet at each vertex, and they have rotational icosahedral symmetry. They are not necessarily mirror-symmetric; e.g. and are enantiomorphs of each other. A Goldberg polyhedron is a dual polyhedron of a geodesic sphere. A consequence of Euler's polyhedron formula is that a Goldberg polyhedron always has exactly twelve pentagonal faces. Icosahedral symmetry ensures that the pentagons are always regular and that there are always 12 of them. If the vertices are not constrained to a sphere, the polyhedron can be constructed with planar equilateral (but not in general equiangular) faces. Simple examples of Goldberg polyhedra include the dodecahedron and truncated icosah ...

Goldberger–Wise Mechanism
In particle physics, the Goldberger–Wise mechanism is a popular mechanism that determines the size of the fifth dimension in Randall–Sundrum models. The mechanism uses a scalar field that propagates throughout the five-dimensional bulk. On each of the branes that end the fifth dimension (frequently referred to as the Planck brane and TeV brane, respectively) there is a potential for this scalar field. The minima for the potentials on the Planck brane and TeV brane are different and causes the vacuum expectation value of the scalar field to change throughout the fifth dimension. This configuration generates a potential for the radion causing it to have a vacuum expectation value and a mass. With reasonable values for the scalar potential, the size of the extra dimension is large enough to solve the hierarchy problem In theoretical physics, the hierarchy problem is the problem concerning the large discrepancy between aspects of the weak force and gravity. There is no ...
