Gold Heels (film)
''Gold Heels'' is a 1924 American silent drama film produced and distributed by Fox Film Corporation and directed by W. S. Van Dyke. The film is loosely based on legendary racing horse Gold Heels and the novel '' Checkers: A Hard Luck Story'' by Henry Martyn Blossom. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, following a steak of hard luck at the race track, Boots (Agnew) and his pal Push (Littlefield) rescue a chap from thugs. Boots takes him to his hometown. He is attracted to a young woman, Pert Barlow (Shaw), and gets a job in her father's (Stockdale) store. Old Barlow owns the broken-down horse, Gold Heels, which Boots buys. A child dies because of the deplorable conditions at the orphanage and Pert starts a campaign to get a new one. Barlow takes charge of the money but it is stolen. Boots is accused of the theft and is jailed, but his pals get him out. He returns to the city. William Fox (producer)
Wilhelm Fried Fuchs ( hu, Fried Vilmos; January 1, 1879 – May 8, 1952), commonly and better known as William Fox, was a Hungarian-American film industry executive who founded the Fox Film Corporation in 1915 and the Fox West Coast Theatres chain in the 1920s. Although he lost control of his film businesses in 1930, his name was used by 20th Century Fox (now ''20th Century Studios'') and continues to be used in the trademarks of the present-day Fox Corporation, including the Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox News, Fox Sports and Foxtel. Early life Fox was born in Tolcsva, Hungary, and originally named Wilhelm Fried Fuchs. His parents, Michael Fuchs and Anna Fried, were both Hungarian Jews. Lucien Littlefield
Lucien Littlefield (August 16, 1895 – June 4, 1960) was an American actor who achieved a long career from silent films to the television era. He was noted for his versatility, playing a wide range of roles and already portraying old men before he was of voting age. Life and career Lucien Littlefield was born in San Antonio, Texas and attended Staunton Military Academy. He started his movie career in 1913 and worked as an actor until his death in 1960. He usually portrayed comedic supporting characters, often much older than himself. His role of the doctor in '' The Cat and the Canary'' (1927) is one of his more notable performances. The character actor appeared with Laurel and Hardy, first as an eccentric professor in '' Dirty Work'' and finally as a veterinarian in '' Sons of the Desert'', both made in 1933. In biology, adaptation has three related meanings. Firstly, it is the dynamic evolutionary process of natural selection that fits organisms to their environment, enhancing their evolutionary fitness. Secondly, it is a state reached by the population during that process.
