The commissioner of Yukon (french: Commissaire du Yukon) is the representative of the Government of Canada in the Canadian federal territory of Yukon. The commissioner is appointed by the federal government and, in contrast to the governor general of Canada or the lieutenant governors of the Canadian provinces, is not a viceroy and therefore not a direct representative of the Canadian monarch in the territory '' eo ipso''. Angélique Bernard
Rose Marie Angélique Bernard (born 1972) is the current commissioner of Yukon, appointed on 12 March 2018. She is the youngest person to serve as commissioner for any of Canada's three northern territories and the first Franco-Yukonnais to serve as commissioner. Bernard moved to the Yukon from Montreal in 1995, initially for a 4-month translation internship with the territorial government. She became an active member of the Franco-Yukonnais community, including volunteering for non-profit organizations and hosting a French-language community radio show starting in 1998. Henry William Newlands
Henry William Newlands (March 19, 1862 – August 9, 1954) was a Canadian politician and lawyer, and he served as Saskatchewan's fourth Lieutenant Governor. Born in March 1862 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Newlands was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1883, after which he would go on to have an important role in the domain of law. That same year, he moved to Western Canada, residing briefly in Winnipeg. In 1885, Newlands moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where he practiced law. He also served as inspector of land titles offices in the Northwest Territories as well as law adviser to the Yukon Executive Council. In 1902, Newlands served as Acting Commissioner for several months when Commissioner James Hamilton Ross was elected MP for Yukon in the House of Commons of Canada. The position of Minister of Mines and Resources was a cabinet portfolio in Canada from 1936 to 1950. The mines portfolio had previously been that of the Minister of Mines, which was a portfolio adjunct to other ministries such as Inland Revenue and Indian Affairs. Upon their abolition, the responsibilities belonging to the offices of Minister of Immigration and Colonization, Minister of the Interior, Minister of Mines, and Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs were combined into the office of Minister of Mines and Resources, created by Statute 1 Edw. VIII, c. 33, assented to on 23 June 1936 and proclaimed in force on 1 December 1936. Minister Of The Interior (Canada)
The Minister of the Interior was the member of the Canadian Cabinet who oversaw the Department of the Interior, which was responsible for federal land management, immigration, Indian affairs, and natural-resources extraction. The position was created in 1873 by Statute 36 Victoria, c. 4, to replace the Secretary of State for the Provinces. The Act designated the Minister as ''ex officio'' the Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs. From 30 March 1912 to 9 February 1913, and from 31 December 1919 to 6 August 1930, the Minister of the Interior was also designated ''ex officio'' the Minister of Mines. It was superseded in 1936 by the Minister responsible for Indian Affairs and Minister of Mines and Resources. George Black (Canadian Politician)
George Black (April 10, 1873 – August 23, 1965) was an administrator and politician in Yukon, Canada. He went to Yukon in 1898 during the Gold Rush and prospected for gold, making a fortune and losing it when his claim was swept away in a flood. He then established a law practice in Dawson City. He was elected to the Yukon Territorial Council in 1905, and first ran for the House of Commons of Canada in the 1908 federal election but was defeated. In the 1911 federal election he was H.H. Stevens' campaign manager, and was rewarded by the government of Robert Laird Borden by being appointed to the position of Commissioner of the Yukon. As the commissioner from 1912 to 1915, he tried to bring in legislation to protect miners, loggers and others who worked for companies that went bankrupt. Alexander Henderson (Canadian Politician)
Alexander Henderson, (March 13, 1860 – December 13, 1940) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in British Columbia and Yukon. He represented New Westminster City in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1898 to 1900. Henderson served as the sixth commissioner of Yukon from 1907 to 1911. Biography He was born in Oshawa, Ontario, the son of Alexander Henderson, and was educated there, at the University of Toronto and at Osgoode Hall. Henderson was called to the Ontario bar in 1889 and the British Columbia bar in 1892. Henderson practised law in Oshawa until 1891 when he moved to New Westminster, British Columbia. William Wallace Burns McInnes (April 8, 1871 – August 4, 1954) was a Canadian politician, lawyer and served as the fifth commissioner of Yukon. Born in Dresden, Ontario, the son of Thomas Robert McInnes, McInnes entered the University of Toronto at the age of 14 and graduated in 1889, the youngest graduate to that date. After studying at Osgoode Hall, he was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1893 and practiced law in Nanaimo and Vancouver. A member of the Liberal Party of Canada, McInnes won the federal constituency of Vancouver in 1896 and sat in the House of Commons of Canada in Ottawa.
