Gold-Burg Independent School District
Gold-Burg Independent School District is a public school district in northwestern Montague County, Texas (USA). A small portion of the district extends into northeastern Clay County. The district's name is a conglomerate of the two unincorporated communities that it serves – "Gold" from Ringgold and "Burg" from Stoneburg. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Ringgold, Texas
Ringgold is an unincorporated community in Montague County, Texas, United States, with an estimated population of 100 people. It is approximately northwest of Montague, the county seat. The town's major industry is cattle ranching. Schools Ringgold has one school, Ringgold Elementary School. Older students who live in Ringgold attend schools in nearby Stoneburg, where a consolidated school district ( Gold-Burg ISD) has been established. Students may also opt to attend school in Nocona. History The area around Ringgold was settled in 1892, when a land owner began selling parcels in the area where the Rock Island Line railroad built a line. Six-man Football
Six-man football is a variant of gridiron football played with six players per team, instead of the standard 11 or 12. It is generally played by high schools in rural areas of the United States and Canada. History Six-man football was developed in 1934 by Stephen Epler in Chester, Nebraska, as an alternative means for small high schools to field a football team during the Great Depression. The first game was played on Thursday, September 27, 1934, at the Hebron, Nebraska Athletic Gridiron, under the lights, with a crowd of almost 1000 watching. This game was played so that coaches all over Kansas and Nebraska could see if they wanted to try this new game of six-man. Stoneburg is an unincorporated community in Montague County, Texas, United States. It had a population of approximately 51 in 1990. History Stoneburg sits at the intersection of U.S. Route 81 and Farm to Market Road 1806 in east central Montague County. Bowie Lake is southwest of the town. The town developed after the construction of the Chicago, Rock Island, and Texas Railway between Fort Worth and Salina, Kansas in 1893. The town's proximity to Bowie, however, limited the prospect of major growth and the population never surpassed 150. Its post office, opened in 1893, closed in 1954.
