Gol Stave Church
Gol Stave Church ( no, Gol stavkyrkje) is a stave church originally from Gol in the traditional region of Hallingdal in Buskerud county, Norway. The reconstructed church is now a museum and is now located in the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History at Bygdøy in Oslo, Norway. Description The church has been dendrochronologically dated to from 1157 to 1216. When the city built a new church around 1880, it was decided to demolish the old stave church. It was saved from destruction by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments (''Fortidsminneforeningen''), which bought the materials in order to re-erect the church elsewhere. The remains of the original medieval construction were documented before transport. Original murals and medieval artifacts survived. Most of the main construction remained intact and in original form, although practically all of the exterior dates from the 1884–1885 restoration. Uvdal Stave Church
Uvdal Stave Church (''Uvdal stavkirke'') is situated at Uvdal in the valley Numedal in Nore og Uvdal in Buskerud, Norway. The stave church was originally constructed just after the year 1168, which is known through dendrochronological dating of the ore-pine used in the construction. The logs were not completely dry when the construction took place. Construction history An archeological excavation that took place during 1978 showed that the church was built on the remains of a previous church. It is thought to have been made with the use of embedded corner column technology at the beginning of the 11th century. Churches made during the 12th century were usually very small, often no more than 40 square meters, and were therefore often expanded, even during the Middle Ages and certainly just before and after the Reformation, which took place during 1537 in Norway. Nore Stave Church ( no, Nore stavkyrkje) is a stave church located at Nore in Nore og Uvdal kommune in Viken county, Norway. Description Dendrochronological dating of wood samples indicate that Nore stave church was built after 1167. The church was built with galleries, a chancel and cross naves an architectural style that was unique in Europe during the Middle Ages. This style has come to be known as Nummedals-type. Decorations are from different periods. Nore is decorated with tendril and animal carvings. Animal characters featured include dragons and lions. The church has a central mast that was originally the support for a tower, mostly likely containing church bells. Veggli Stave Church
Veggli is a village in the municipality of Rollag, in the county of Buskerud, Norway. Veggli is located about 66 kilometers north of Kongsberg. It is located in the traditional district and valley of Numedal. It is situated on the Numedalslågen River, near the mouth of Nørdsteåas estuary. Its population in 2005 was 292. Veggli train station was on the Numedal Line. The line ran from Kongsberg to Rødberg in Nore og Uvdal. The line was officially opened in 1927. Passenger traffic on the track was closed in 1988. West from Veggli, the road goes over Vegglifjell where Veggli Lodge and Veggli Skisenter are located. Further the road leads to the villages of Austbygdi and Tessungdalen in Tinn. The church is located a few kilometres north of the centre of the village of Rollag. History Rollag Stave Church was probably originally built in second half of the 12th century. Torpo Stave Church ( no, Torpo stavkyrkje) is a stave church located in Torpo, a small village in Ål municipality in Viken county, Norway. Torpo is located along Norwegian National Road 7, the Norwegian national road which runs between Oslo and Bergen. Valdres () is a traditional district in central, southern Norway, situated between the districts of Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal.
