Glenn Goins
Glenn Lamonte Goins (January 2, 1954 – July 29, 1978), also known as Glen Goins, was a singer and guitarist for Parliament-Funkadelic in the mid-1970s. Goins is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, posthumously inducted in 1997 with fifteen other members of Parliament-Funkadelic. His first (known) recordings were as part of the group "The Bags". They released a single in 1972: "It's Heavy" b/w "Don't Mess With My Baby". Biography Born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, in a family of talented musicians, Goins was a master vocalist with a strong, haunting and powerful gospel voice. He is perhaps best known for "calling in the Mothership" in the P-Funk live shows, such as on the renowned P-Funk Earth Tour. Herbie Goins
Hubert Leroy "Herbie" Goins (February 21, 1939 – October 27, 2015) was an American rhythm & blues singer. He worked mainly in England in the 1960s, notably with Alexis Korner and then as the leader of Herbie Goins & The Night-Timers (or Nightimers). He later continued his career based in Sezze, Italy. Life and career He was born and grew up in Ocala, Florida, and sang in his local church as a child before forming his first blues group, The Teen Kings. He later moved to New York City and continued his singing career, opening for such acts as B. B. King, Bobby Bland and Sam Cooke. He was drafted in the late 1950s and served as a GI in the medical corps in Germany, with Edwin Starr. After leaving the US Army and joining the band led by Eric Delaney, with whom he travelled to England. Ray Goins
Ray Goins (January 3, 1936 – July 2, 2007) was an American bluegrass banjoist. Born in Bramwell, West Virginia, Goins aspired to be a lawyer. He changed his career to music in the 1940s after listening to string band music on WCYB radio, and began singing publicly at the age of 16. During a 50-year career he was member of the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers and Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys, before finally forming the Goins Brothers with his older brother, Melvin. Ray Goins had a heart attack in 1994 and semi-retired from playing professionally in 1997. He still played shows occasionally with Melvin & Windy Mountain after he semi-retired.
