Going Up (film)
''Going Up'' is a 1923 American silent comedy film directed by Lloyd Ingraham and starring Douglas MacLean, Hallam Cooley and Marjorie Daw.Munden p.300 It was based on a 1917 comedy Broadway play ''The Aviator''. Synopsis The author of a series of bestselling novels about aviation has false gained a reputation has an expert pilot when he cannot fly and has a phobia of planes. However, when he is challenged by a genuine expert to a race with a rival in love, he accepts and triumphs. Lloyd Ingraham
Lloyd Chauncey Ingraham (November 30, 1874 – April 4, 1956) was an American film actor and director. Biography Born in Rochelle, Illinois, Ingraham appeared in more than 280 films between 1912 and 1950, as well as directing more than 100 films between 1913 and 1930. Films for which he is known include ''Scaramouche'' (1923), ''The Padrone's Ward'' (1914) and '' Rainbow Valley'' (1935). He performed in several films with John Wayne including '' Rainbow Valley'' (1935), '' Empty Saddles'' (1936), '' Westward Ho'' (1935), ''The Lonely Trail'' (1936) and ''Conflict'' (1936). He died of pneumonia in the Motion Picture Hospital at Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, aged 82. His remains are buried in Chapel of the Pines Crematory. Hughie Mack
Hughie Mack (November 26, 1884 – October 13, 1927) was an American actor of the silent era. He appeared in more than 190 films between 1910 and 1928. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was working as a mortician when he paid a casual visit to the Vitagraph studio in Brooklyn. His large frame and comical facial expression made Vitagraph's star comedian John Bunny laugh. As ''Picture Play'' Magazine reported, "The Vitagraph people decided that, if he was funny enough to amuse their star, he could also entertain the public. So he was hired."''Picture Play'', Jan. 1928, p. 26. He later became a prolific character comedian in feature films. Edna Murphy (November 17, 1899 – August 3, 1974) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in 80 films between 1918 and 1933. Murphy was voted "Most Photographed Movie Star of 1925" by '' ScreenLand Magazine''. For part of her career, Murphy was the leading woman in films with Monte Blue. Murphy married director Mervyn LeRoy on December 18, 1927. She divorced him on June 30, 1932, on the grounds of desertion. Mervyn LeRoy
Mervyn LeRoy (; October 15, 1900 – September 13, 1987) was an American film director and producer. In his youth he played juvenile roles in vaudeville and silent film comedies. During the 1930s, LeRoy was one of the two great practitioners of economical and effective film directing at Warner Brothers studios, the other his cohort Michael Curtiz. LeRoy's most acclaimed films of his tenure at Warners include '' Little Caesar'' (1931), ''I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang'' (1932), ''Gold Diggers of 1933'' (1933) and ''They Won't Forget'' (1937). LeRoy left Warners and moved to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios in 1939 to serve as both director and producer. Perhaps his most notable achievement as a producer is the 1939 classic '' The Wizard of Oz'', of which he was also uncredited as a director.
