Godmanchester railway station was a railway station situated in the town of Godmanchester in Huntingdonshire, England. It was situated on the Huntingdon to St Ives line. History The station was built by the Ely and Huntingdon Railway (E&HR), and opened on 19 August 1847; it was originally named ''Huntingdon''. Prior to opening, the E&HR amalgamated with the Lynn and Dereham Railway and the Lynn and Ely Railway to form the East Anglian Railway (EAR). The EAR was absorbed by the Great Eastern Railway (GER) in 1862. The line and station were transferred to the Great Northern and Great Eastern Joint Railway (GN&GEJR) in 1879, and on 1 July 1882, the station was renamed ''Godmanchester''. Godmanchester
Godmanchester ( ) is a town and civil parish in the Huntingdonshire district of Cambridgeshire, England. It is separated from Huntingdon, to the north, by the valley of the River Great Ouse. Being on the Roman road network, the town has a long history. It has a waterside location, surrounded by open countryside of high value for its biodiversity but it remains highly accessible, with a railway line to London, the A1 road and M11/ A14 which run nearby. 1923 Grouping
The Railways Act 1921 (c. 55), also known as the Grouping Act, was an Act of Parliament enacted by the British government and intended to stem the losses being made by many of the country's 120 railway companies, by "grouping" them into four large companies dubbed the " Big Four". St Ives railway station is a former railway station in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. It formed a junction, with lines to the east heading towards Cambridge, north towards Ely and March and west towards Godmanchester. Great Eastern Railway
The Great Eastern Railway (GER) was a pre-grouping British railway company, whose main line linked London Liverpool Street to Norwich and which had other lines through East Anglia. The company was grouped into the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923. Lynn And Ely Railway
King's Lynn railway station is the northern terminus of the Fen line in the east of England, serving the town of King's Lynn, Norfolk. It is from and measured from London Liverpool Street. The station and most trains calling are operated by Great Northern (with service to and from ), with some additional peak services being operated by Greater Anglia (to and from London Liverpool Street). Lynn And Dereham Railway
The Lynn and Dereham Railway was a standard gauge single track railway running between King's Lynn and Dereham in the English county of Norfolk. The Lynn to Dereham line opened in 1846 and closed in 1968, although the section between Middleton Towers and King's Lynn remains open to freight. History The Lynn & Dereham Railway, which weaved a route to East Dereham via Narborough and Swaffham, was given the Royal Assent on 21 July 1845, opening in stages between 1846 and 1848; this later became part of the Great Eastern Railway.
