Alice Godman
Dame Alice Mary Godman, ( Chaplin; 24 June 1868 – 3 October 1944) was a British charity worker, serving as Deputy President of the British Red Cross Society. She also had an interest in Girl Guiding and served as County Commissioner for Girl Guides in Sussex. Godman was the second wife of Frederick DuCane Godman, a noted naturalist, and accompanied him on expeditions. The extinct Lord Howe Pigeon was described by Gregory Mathews in 1915, using a painting as a guide. At the time, he named it ''Raperia godmanae'' for Alice Mary Godman. Buda Godman
Buda Godman ''('' Helen Julia Godman; December 4, 1888 – January 7, 1945) was an American criminal, actress, and singer. From 1907 to 1910, she was married to the popular songwriter and music publisher Tell Taylor. Six years after Taylor divorced her, Godman was arrested and released on bail for participating in a scheme to blackmail a wealthy widower. Godman attempted a scheme known as a "badger game," which involved framing a victim in an embarrassing and illegal situation that resulted in a staged arrest by fake law enforcement officials. Godman posed as an unmarried woman being held against her will in a hotel room across state lines, which, if true, would have been a violation of the Mann Act. The ensuing fake arrest went awry when the victim reported the incident to authorities. David Godman (born 1953) has written on the life, teachings and disciples of Ramana Maharshi, an Indian sage who lived and taught for more than fifty years at Arunachala, a sacred mountain in Tamil Nadu, India. Frederick DuCane Godman DCL FRS FLS FGS FRGS FES FZS MRI FRHS (15 January 1834 – 19 February 1919) was an English lepidopterist, entomologist and ornithologist. He was one of the twenty founding members of the British Ornithologists' Union. Along with Osbert Salvin, he is remembered for studying the fauna and flora of Central America. Godman collected Iznik, Hispano-Moresque and early Iranian pottery. His collection of more than 600 pieces was donated to the British Museum through the will of his younger daughter, Catherine, who died in 1982. Norman Anthony Godman (19 April 1937 – 20 June 2018) was a Scottish Labour Party politician. Early life Godman was one of nine children born to a trawler skipper man and a mother who worked in fish processing. After leaving Westbourne Street Boys' School at 15, he worked as a shipwright before undertaking night classes and eventually graduating from Hull and Heriot-Watt Universities with a PhD and undertaking an academic career in Scotland. Sir Bryant Godman Irvine (25 July 1909 – 3 May 1992) was a Canadian-born British Conservative politician. Early life Irvine was born to William Henry and Ada Mary Irvine and raised in Toronto. He was educated at Upper Canada College in Toronto and then moved to Britain to attend St Paul's School and Magdalen College, Oxford, where he was secretary of the Oxford Union.
