Donna Jean Thatcher Godchaux-MacKay (born August 22, 1947) is an American singer who was a member of the Grateful Dead from 1972 until 1979. Biography Donna Jean Thatcher was born in Florence, Alabama. Prior to 1970, she had worked as a session singer in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, eventually singing with a group called Southern Comfort and appearing as a backup singer on at least two #1 hit songs: " When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge in 1966 and "Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley in 1969. Her vocals were featured on other classic recordings by Boz Scaggs and Duane Allman, Cher, Joe Tex, Neil Diamond and many others. She then moved to California and met future fellow Grateful Dead member Keith Godchaux, whom she married in 1970. Davon Montel Godchaux (born November 11, 1994) is an American football defensive tackle for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at LSU from 2014 to 2016. He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and played for the team from 2017 to 2020. High school career A native of Plaquemine, Louisiana, Godchaux attended Plaquemine Senior High School, where he was an All-State defensive lineman. He compiled 60 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, and 4.5 sacks in his junior season in 2012, which earned him first-team All-State honors for Class 4A. In the season opener of his senior year, he tore his anterior cruciate ligament, causing him to miss the rest of the season. Keith Richard Godchaux (July 19, 1948 – July 23, 1980) was a pianist best known for his tenure in the rock group the Grateful Dead from 1971 to 1979. Biography Godchaux was born in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in Concord, California, a regional suburban center within the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. Frank Area Godchaux Jr. (December 27, 1901 – November 4, 1978) was an American football and baseball player and golfer for the Vanderbilt Commodores of Vanderbilt University. Early years Frank Area Godchaux Jr. was born on December 27, 1901, in Abbeville, Louisiana, to Frank Godchaux Sr. His father was a letterman and quarterback for the Commodores on the 1899 team, transferring from LSU in 1897, and once President of the Louisiana Rice Milling Company, a $10,000,000 corporation. Vanderbilt University Godchaux Hall at Vanderbilt University was named for his wife, Mary Ragland Godchaux. Leon Godchaux
Leon Godchaux (June 10, 1824 – May 18, 1899) was a French-born American businessman, planter, sugar plantation owner and the founder of the Leon Godchaux Clothing Co. department store and Godchaux Sugars Inc.. He lived in Louisiana, where the "largest sugar plantations" were "the Calumet, and those owned by Leon Godchaux, 'The Sugar King of the South.'" Biography Born to a Jewish family in Herbéviller region of Lorraine France, Godchaux immigrated to the United States in 1837. In 1845, he founded the Leon Godchaux Clothing Co., a department store that anchored Canal Street in New Orleans for years to come. He then purchased the town of Bonnet Carre in St. John the Baptist Parish and changed its name to Reserve. The town of Reserve went on to become the home of the largest sugar refinery in the United States, fed by his twelve sugar cane plantations across southeast Louisiana. Patricia "Pan" Godchaux is a moderate Republican who ran for the United States Congress for the 9th federal congressional district in the state of Michigan. She challenged seven-term incumbent Joe Knollenberg in the Republican primary and hoped to get Democratic support, as the Democrats' challenger, Nancy Skinner, didn't have to face a primary contest. She notes that the district is inclined to vote Republican, and that unless citizens of the district want to re-elect a conservative Republican, their best chance to avoid doing so was by placing a moderate on the ballot in November.
