God (Australian Band)
God (also stylised as GOD) were an Australian punk rock band formed in 1986 by Sean Greenway on guitar and vocals; Tim Hemensley on bass guitar, drums and vocals; Joel Silbersher on guitar and vocals; and Matthew Whittle on bass guitar, drums and vocals. All four were 15-16 at the time. Their signature song, "My Pal", was released as their debut single in January 1988. Their sole studio album, ''For Lovers Only'', appeared in December 1989 after the group disbanded. Sean Greenway died of a heroin overdose on 21 January 2001, aged 30. Tim Hemensley also died of a heroin overdose, on 21 July 2003, aged 31. Whittle curated their 2× CD compilation album, ''GOD'', in February 2010. Gisborne, Victoria
Gisborne () is a town in the Macedon Ranges, located about north-west of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is the largest town in the Macedon Ranges Shire, with a population of 13,963 as of June 2018. Gisborne is known for its country homesteads, tree-lined streets, restaurants and cafes. Peabody (band)
Peabody are an Australian four-piece rock band, formed in 1994. Career Peabody formed as a three-piece group after leaving school in Sydney in 1994. They entered the Sydney live circuit, playing at venues like The Lansdowne Hotel and The Iron Duke, then subsequently larger venues such as The Annandale Hotel, The Hopetoun Hotel and The Sandringham Hotel. The band recorded and self-released two early EPs, before beginning an association with Sydney-based independent record label Nonzero Records, founded in 2001. Through Nonzero Records, the band met producer Jamie Hutchings, leader of label-mates Bluebottle Kiss, who produced their first album, 2003's ''Professional Againster'' (named after a song by New Bomb Turks), and their second LP, ''The New Violence'', released in 2005. Violent Soho
Violent Soho were an Australian alternative rock band that was formed in 2004 in the Brisbane suburb of Mansfield, Queensland originally under the name of "showroom". For the majority of the band's existence, the line-up was composed of Luke Boerdam (lead vocals, guitar), James Tidswell (guitar, backing vocals), Luke Henery (bass, backing vocals) and Michael Richards (drums, backing vocals). Their sound has been compared to that of 1980s and 1990s alternative rock bands such as the Pixies, Mudhoney and Nirvana. Although being largely described as grunge, the band self described themselves as a " stoner pop" band. Magic Dirt
Magic Dirt are an Australian rock band, which formed in 1991 in Geelong, Victoria, with Daniel Herring on guitar, Adam Robertson on drums, Adalita Srsen on vocals and guitar, and Dean Turner (musician), Dean Turner on bass guitar. Initially forming an alternative underground band called Deer Bubbles which split and formed into the much heavier, rock based group called The Jim Jims, they were renamed as Magic Dirt. Their top 40 releases on the ARIA Charts, ARIA Albums Chart are ''Friends in Danger'' (1996), ''What Are Rock Stars Doing Today'' (2000), ''Tough Love (Magic Dirt album), Tough Love'' (2003) and ''Snow White (album), Snow White'' (2005). Ian McFarlane
Ian McFarlane (born 1959) is an Australian music journalist, music historian and author, whose best known publication is the '' Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop'' (1999), which was updated for a second edition in 2017. As a journalist he started in 1984 with '' Juke'', a rock music newspaper. During the early 1990s he worked for Roadrunner Records while he published a music guide, ''The Australian New Music Record Guide Volume 1: 1976–1980'' (1992). He followed with two fanzines, ''Freedom Train'' and ''Prehistoric Sounds'', both issued during 1994 to 1996. McFarlane's ''The Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop'' is described by the ''Australian Music Guide'' as "the most exhaustive and wide-ranging encyclopedia of Australian music from the 1950s onwards". "My Pal" is a 1988 single from Australian band God. Details Formed in Melbourne in 1986, the members of God were all 15 or 16 at the time Bruce Milne of Au Go Go Records signed the band and released "My Pal" as their debut single in January 1988. It was written by Silbersher. And it was extremely easy to write the music. I thought up that line that goes through the whole thing and I was trying to think of another one, and then went... oh no, if you just do this... that's a song. That's a whole piece of music. Bruce Milne
Bruce Milne (born 1957) is an Australian radio presenter and music journalist. He co-founded Au-Go-Go Records and the cassette magazine ''Fast Forward'', and was owner of The Tote Hotel. Career Milne began his career in the 1970s hosting music programs on Swinburne Tech radio, 3CR Melbourne, and community radio station 3RRR. He co-founded ''Pulp'', a punk fanzine created with Clinton Walker in 1977, and went onto edit ''Roadrunner'', another music magazine which launched in March 1978. Milne left the magazine as it didn't make enough money and began working for Missing Link Records. Between November 1978 - October 1982 he co-edited the audio cassette magazine ''Fast Forward'' with co-founder Andrew Maine.
