''Goce'' is an opera composed by Kiril Makedonski (1925–1984), written by Venko Markovski and dedicated to Gotse Delchev. The work was commissioned to be the very first opera performed by the Macedonian National Opera Company. It premiered on May 24, 1954 and it is the first opera to be written in Macedonian. Opera is a form of theatre in which music is a fundamental component and dramatic roles are taken by singers. Kiril Makedonski
Kiril Makedonski (19 January 1925 – 2 June 1984) was a Macedonian composer. Born as ''Kiril Vangelov'' in Bitola, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Makedonski studied music composition at the Zagreb Conservatory in Croatia. He is best known today for composing ''Goce'' (1954), the first opera in Macedonian, which was commissioned for the inaugural performance of the Macedonian National Opera Company. He wrote two other operas, ''King Samoil'' and ''Ilinden''. Venko Markovski (Bulgarian language, Bulgarian and mk, Венко Марковски), born Veniamin Milanov Toshev (March 5, 1915 in Skopje – January 7, 1988 in Sofia) was a Bulgarian and Macedonians (ethnic group), Macedonian writer, poet, Yugoslav Partisans, partisan and Communism, Communist politician. Macedonian Language
Macedonian (; , , ) is an Eastern South Slavic language. It is part of the Indo-European language family, and is one of the Slavic languages, which are part of a larger Balto-Slavic branch. Spoken as a first language by around two million people, it serves as the official language of North Macedonia.
