Goan Catholics Under The British Empire
Goan Catholics are Indian Christians from Goa, Damaon& Diu on the western coast of India. They are Konkani people and speak the Konkani language. This indigenous population of the erstwhile Portuguese colony of Goa, Daman and Diu underwent Christianisation following the Portuguese conquest of Goa in 1510. The converts in the ''Velhas Conquistas'' (Old Conquests) to Roman Catholicism were then granted full Portuguese citizenship. Several Goan Catholics emigrated for economic reasons to various British colonies during the British Raj, thereby creating diaspora communities such as Pakistani Goans and Goans in the Swindon area of the UK. Goan Catholics
Goan Catholics ( gom, Goenchem Katholik) are an ethno-religious community of Indian Christians following the Roman Rite of worship from the Goa state, in the southern part of the Konkan region along the west coast of India. They are Konkani people and speak the Konkani language. Missionary activities followed soon after the Portuguese conquest of Goa as Pope Nicholas V had enacted the Papal bull of ''Romanus Pontifex'' in AD 1455, according to which the patronage for propagation of the Christian faith in the East Indies was granted to the Portuguese crown. Their culture is an amalgam of Konkani and Portuguese cultures, with the latter having a more dominant role because Goa, Damaon & Diu had been ruled by Portugal from AD 1510–1961. Garden East ( ur, گارڈ ن ایسٹ ) is a neighborhood in Karachi East district of Karachi, Pakistan. It is administered as part of Jamshed Town, which was disbanded in 2011 but later restored in early 2022. Cincinnatus Town was initially a Christian neighborhood in Jamshed Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The planners Cincinnatus Fabian D'Abreo, Pedro D'Souza and his colleague George Britto, the town planners designed Cincinnatus Town, with its front on Britto Road and the back on Seth Mahomed Ali Habib Road. D'Souza was a brilliant engineer who studied in St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, St. Xavier's College in Bombay. He died on December 31, 1912. Karachi Goan Association is a social and sports club in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Early history In 1887 the foundation stone of the Goa-Portuguese Association building was laid, and in 1888 an imposing building was completed at a cost of Rs. 14,013. The building is a magnificent structure, and a popular Karachi landmark. The building has an extensive dance hall on the upper floor. There is a spacious stage for concerts, plays and operas. Cincinnatus Fabian D’Abreo was an administrator and politician in Karachi, British India. Biography He was born on 24 September 1862. His father, Manuel D’Abreo had migrated to Sindh in 1846. Cincinnatus was married to Maggie Gomes with whom he had five children, Joe, Maggie, Alfred, Gwennie and Bill. He was educated at St Patrick's High School, Karachi. However, he had to discontinue his studies at the age of 16 and earn a living, due to the unfortunate death of his father. He was first employed by the Civil and Military Gazette Press as a clerk. Two years later he joined the British business, Forbes, Forbes and Campbell, engaged in the import and export trade. In 1889, at the age of 27, he joined the Sind Commissioner's office as a clerk. In 1895 he was promoted to the position of assistant collector of Sukkur and finally was elected president of the municipality.
