Go Player (TV Series)
''Go Player'' (, literally "Go Youngsters" or "Go Boy") is a children's animated series. It was produced in China.The first season is set in the late Ming Dynasty and follows the development of Jiang Liu'er, a young man with a talent for the game of Go. The show spans two seasons with 26 episodes in each. The story focuses on the journey of a young, gifted Go player, Liuer Jiang. The first season first aired on CCTV in 2006. The second season, called ''Go Player 2'' (围棋少年2), aired in 2009. China Central Television (CCTV) is a Chinese state- and political party-owned broadcaster controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Its 50 different channels broadcast a variety of programing to more than one billion viewers in six languages. Go (game)
Go is an abstract strategy board game for two players in which the aim is to surround more territory than the opponent. The game was invented in China more than 2,500 years ago and is believed to be the oldest board game continuously played to the present day. A 2016 survey by the International Go Federation's 75 member nations found that there are over 46 million people worldwide who know how to play Go and over 20 million current players, the majority of whom live in East Asia. The playing pieces are called stones. One player uses the white stones and the other, black. The players take turns placing the stones on the vacant intersections (''points'') of a board. Once placed on the board, stones may not be moved, but stones are removed from the board if the stone (or group of stones) is surrounded by opposing stones on all orthogonally adjacent points, in which case the stone or group is ''captured''. Hikaru No Go
is a Japanese manga series based on the board game Go, written by Yumi Hotta and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The production of the series' Go games was supervised by Go professional Yukari Umezawa. It was serialized in Shueisha's ''Weekly Shōnen Jump'' from 1999 to 2003, with its chapters collected into 23 ''tankōbon'' volumes. The story follows Hikaru, who discovers a Go board in his grandfather's attic one day. The object turns out to be haunted by a ghost named Sai, the emperor's former Go teacher in the Heian era. Sai finds himself trapped in Hikaru's mind and gradually gives him a taste for Go. It was adapted into an anime television series by Studio Pierrot, which ran for 75 episodes from 2001 to 2003 on TV Tokyo, with a New Year's Special aired in January 2004.
