"Go Like Elijah" is a 1973 song by Chi Coltrane. It was a number one hit in the Netherlands at the time. It stayed in the Dutch Top 40 for one month. In the Netherlands it was released with "It's Really Come to This" as its B-side. The song can be found on her album ''Chi Coltrane'' (1973). Lyrics The lyrics describe how the singer wants to rise up to Heaven after her death in the same manner as the biblical prophet Elijah who, according to a Bible passage, was lifted up in the sky by a chariot pulled by fiery horses. Chi Coltrane
Chi Coltrane (born November 6, 1948) is an American rock/gospel music, gospel singer, songwriter and pianist. She first came to notice in 1972 with the single "Thunder and Lightning (Chi Coltrane song), Thunder and Lightning". Her 1973 song "Go Like Elijah" was a number one-hit in The Netherlands. Career Chi Coltrane began as a performer in Chicago. She made her overseas debut when she starred as guest star of the US at the International Rock Festival for 50,000 people in Rio de Janeiro. She returned to the U.S. where Clive Davis signed her to CBS/Sony. Her first hit was in the U.S.: "Thunder and Lightning"; hitting #1 in NYC and various cities across the United States; and reaching #17 nationwide. The Dutch Top 40 ( nl, Nederlandse Top 40) is a weekly music chart compiled by ''Stichting Nederlandse Top 40''. It started as a radio program titled "Veronica Top 40", on the offshore station Radio Veronica in 1965. It remained "The Veronica Top 40" until 1974, when the station was forced to stop broadcasting. Joost den Draaijer initiated the Top 40 in the Netherlands. The show currently airs on Fridays from 2 to 6 PM on Qmusic. History On January 2, 1965, the first Top 40 was compiled, with its first #1 hit "''I Feel Fine''" by The Beatles.
