Gneeveguilla GAA
Gneeveguilla are a Gaelic football team from County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. They play in the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship, Kerry County Football League (Division 1) and the East Kerry Senior Football Championship. The club was founded in 1960. Its facilities include a bar, meeting rooms, office, kitchen, gym and dressing rooms. The hall received renovations and extensions in late 2013. The club has won several county and provincial titles, and reached the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship final in 2022. Club member Ambrose O'Donovan was captain of the Kerry team which won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 1984, Centenary All-Ireland in 1984. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. The Kerry Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kerry GAA clubs. Rathmore are the title holders (2022).. The winners of the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship progress to the Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship, representing Kerry, later that year, or, as was the case in 2021, the following year. East Kerry Senior Football Championship
The East Kerry Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition for teams affiliated to the East Kerry division. Most adult clubs in the division compete for this cup, even if they are playing at junior or intermediate grades. In recent years, the competition has been dominated by Dr Crokes, who won their thirtieth championship in December 2018. The winners receive the Dr O'Donoghue Cup. All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition which began in 2002 and is played by the junior club champions of each county. Prior to that a number of unofficial competitions were held. The winners of each county's junior football championship compete in four provincial championships. The four provincial winners compete in the All Ireland. Ardfert Gaa, Ardfert, a club from Kerry, made history when they won the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship in 2006 and then won the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship in 2007. Kerry clubs have enjoyed the most success, with ten clubs winning the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship since its official inauguration in 2004. Ambrose O'Donovan
Ambrose 'Rosie' O'Donovan (born 11 June 1962 in Gneeveguilla, County Kerry) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Gneeveguilla and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1984 until 1992. O'Donovan captained Kerry to the centenary-year All-Ireland title in 1984. The 1984 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 98th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 13 May 1984 and ended on 23 September 1984. Dublin entered the championship as the defending champions. On 23 September 1984, Kerry won the championship following a 0–14 to 1–6 defeat of Dublin in the All-Ireland final. This was their 28th All-Ireland title. Kerry County Club Championship
The Kerry Club Football Championship is a Gaelic football championship played between senior clubs in Kerry, south-west Ireland. In the event of the Kerry Senior Football Championship being won by a divisional team, the winner of this competition represents Kerry in the Munster Senior Club Football Championship (as divisional teams cannot play in the provincial competition). The competition was not played in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Format Group stage The 8 clubs are divided into two groups of four. Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship
The Munster Football Intermediate Club Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 2003 for the top intermediate clubs in the province of Munster in Ireland. It is sponsored by Allied Irish Bank and therefore officially known as the AIB Munster GAA Football Intermediate Club Championship. The series of games are played during the autumn and winter months with the Munster final currently being played in late November. The Munster Junior Club Football Championship, formally known for sponsorship reasons as the AIB Munster GAA Junior Club Football Championship, is a Gaelic football competition, organized by the Munster provincial council of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The competition is played between the winners of the Junior Football championships in the 6 counties of Munster. It was first played officially in 2003 when Annascaul from Kerry and Carbery Rangers from Cork played each other. Charlie McCarthy (Gaelic Footballer)
Charlie McCarthy (born in Gneeveguilla, County Kerry, Ireland) played Gaelic football with his local club Gneeveguilla. At the age of 19 he was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team during the 1996 Championship campaign. That year Kerry won their first Munster Championship since 1991.
