Gnangara is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Wanneroo. Gnangara is also the name for an underground water mound with a 117-hectare surface feature called Lake Gnangara. Facilities Much of the suburb's area is semi rural, with residential estate developed in the early 1990s by Midland Brick and centred on Lakelands Drive borders includes the private 18-hole golf course Lakelands Country Club, established in 1984 on 70 hectares. The Perth International Telecommunications Centre is located near and often associated with Gnangara. Wanneroo is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is located in the northern suburbs of Perth. Wanneroo is a marginal seat; it has been held by the government of the day on every occasion since its creation in 1989. Geography Wanneroo is based in the outer northern suburbs of Perth. Gnangara Mound
The Gnangara Mound is an area north of Perth, Western Australia where a large mound of sandy soil reaches an elevation of about . It stores about of fresh water, about one hundred times Perth's current annual water usage. It is currently the single most important source of potable water for the city. Together with the Jandakot Mound in the south of Perth it supplies about 35%–50% of the city's drinking water. However, studies have shown that water levels in the Gnangara Mound have fallen substantially in recent times. This has had a significant impact on nearby groundwater-dependent ecosystems such as the Wanneroo wetlands and the Yanchep caves. The problem has also been causing acidification of the nearby Lakes Gnangara, Jandabup, Wilgarup and Mariginiup. Gnangara Road
Gnangara Road is an arterial east-west road in Perth, Western Australia. It is located within the northern suburbs of Perth, from Madeley in the west, to Henley Brook in the east. Gnangara Road provides a connection between Great Northern Highway (via West Swan Road) and Wanneroo Road. The construction of the Ocean Reef Road extension in 2011 altered the road network in the Landsdale area in Landsdale. The plans show Gnangara Road as discontinuous between Mirrabooka Avenue and Alexander Drive, with the Mirrabooka Avenue and Ocean Reef Road extensions linking the two sections. Ocean Reef Road
Ocean Reef Road is an arterial east-west road in Perth, Western Australia. It is located within the northern suburbs of Perth, from Ocean Reef in the west, to Landsdale in the east, with a portion travelling northwards along the coast to Iluka. Lake Gnangara
Lake Gnangara is the most southerly of the Wanneroo wetlands in metropolitan Perth, Western Australia. The state government's ''Wetland Atlas'' defines the body of water as a lake. The surrounding terrain consists of low dunes and undulating sand plains. The lake is fed by ground water of the Gnangara Mound which is contained by a thin layer of clay. Previous uses have included diatomaceous earth mining, which may have contributed to changes in the lake's characteristics and ecology. The area is now the subject of a conservation plan and management strategies, and protected from potential disturbance by mining activities. The City of Wanneroo is a local government area with city status in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is centred approximately north of Perth's central business district and forms part of the northern boundary of the Perth metropolitan area.
