Gnanakoothan
R. Ranganathan (7 October 1938 – 27 July 2016), known professionally as Gnanakoothan, was an Indian poet. Writing in Tamil, he was the author of ''Anru veru kizhamai'' ("That was another day"), ''Suriyanukku Pinpakkam'' ("The rear side of Sun"), ''Kadarkaraiyil Sila Marankal'' ("Few trees in the seashore"), ''Meendum Avarkal'' ("Them again"), and ''Pencil Padangal'' ("Pencil pictures"). He was one of the modern Tamil poets in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Kalki, Kalachuvadu and Uyirmai. He was one of the founder-editors of the little magazine Kacatathapara along with N. Krishnamurthy, Sa. Kandasamy, and N. Muthusamy. He started and ran Gavanam for a brief period. He was also one of the editors of Zha, along with Atmanam and R. Rajagopalan. He contributed to several little magazines including Maiyam, Vrutcham (now Naveena Vrutcham), and Kanaiyazhi. Vishnupuram Ilakkiya Vattam
Vishnupuram Ilakkiya Vattam ( ta, விஷ்ணுபுரம் இலக்கிய வட்டம்) is a literary organization created by Tamil writer Jeyamohan and his readers and fans. It is named after his noted work Vishnupuram. It is currently based out of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, India and is being coordinated by K.V.Arangasamy. It awards the Vishnupuram Award every year. Purpose The Vattam was created in 2009 with the purpose of promoting quality literature among the Tamil community in the world and to create attention for high quality writing and writers. To that effect, the organization periodically conducts literary meetups, seminars, conferences and informal gatherings to discuss literary works and other arts. Marudhanayagam
''Marudhanayagam'' is an unfinished Indian historical drama film directed and produced by Kamal Haasan under his Raaj Kamal Films International banner. The script was co-written by Haasan, along with novelist Sujatha, and the pair started work on the project in late 1991. Following a test shoot in mid-1997, the film was officially launched at a ceremony held at MGR Film City, Chennai during October 1997. Touted to be the most expensive film to be produced in India during that period, the film had a proposed budget of 80 crores. The film had originally pulled together several prominent names across Indian cinema as its principal cast and crew, including Vishnuvardhan, Amrish Puri and Naseeruddin Shah. The music for the film was composed by Ilaiyaraaja with cinematography handled by Ravi K. Chandran. Mayiladuthurai (formerly known as Mayavaram or Mayuram) is a town and district headquarter of Mayiladuthurai district in Tamil Nadu, India. The town is located at a distance of from the state capital, Chennai. Mayiladuthurai was ruled by Medieval Cholas and subsequently ruled by various dynasties, including the Vijayanagar Empire, Thanjavur Nayaks, Thanjavur Marathas and the British Empire. Tamil literature has a rich and long literary tradition spanning more than two thousand years. The oldest extant works show signs of maturity indicating an even longer period of evolution. Contributors to the Tamil literature are mainly from Tamil people from South India, including the land now comprising Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Eelam Tamils from Sri Lanka, as well as the Tamil diaspora. Puviarasu or Puviyarasu, born. 1930), is a Tamil poet and translator from Tamil Nadu, India. Biography Puviyarasu was born in a village near Udumalpet. His birth name was S. Jagannathan. Puviyarasu is the Tamil translation of the Sanskritic "Jagannathan". His family moved to and settled in Coimbatore. He obtained his intermediate degree from Government Arts College, Coimbatore and his Tamil Vidwan degree from Perur Tamil College. He worked as a Tamil teacher for more than thirty years. He first started publishing in 1952. He is a Marxist by political orientation and is an opponent of Dravidian parties. He was imprisoned for his participation in agitations for making Tamil the administrative language of Tamil Nadu and the border agitations. Sujatha (actress)
Sujatha (10 December 1952 – 6 April 2011) was an Indian actress who performed and staggered in a number of unique and variety of characters in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films- in addition to few in Kannada and Hindi languages as well. The actress was best known for restraint and subtlety in portrayal of varied emotions. After starring in numerous Malayalam films in her mother-tongue, Sujatha later got introduced to the Tamil film industry by veteran director K. Balachander and producer P.R. Govindarajan as a protagonist in her first Tamil film, ''Aval Oru Thodar Kathai'' (1974). It was a critically acclaimed film and launched the actress's first commecrical breakthrough in her acting career. Whereas, her first Telugu picture happened to be a Telugu/Tamil bilingual titled as ''Guppedu Manasu'' (1979) in Telugu and was simultaneously shot as Nool Veli in Tamil of the same year.
