Its seat is the town of Ujazd (Ujest), which lies approximately south-east of Strzelce Opolskie and south-east of the regional capital Opole. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2019 its total population is 6,418. Since 2006 the commune, like much of the area, has been officially bilingual in German and Polish, a large German population having remained in the area after it was transferred to Polish control.
