Gmina Stare Czarnowo
__NOTOC__ Gmina Stare Czarnowo is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland. Its seat is the village of Stare Czarnowo, which lies approximately east of Gryfino and south-east of the regional capital Szczecin. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 3,871. The gmina contains part of the protected area called Szczecin Landscape Park. At the end of November 2007 the mayor of the city of Szczecin, Piotr Krzystek, presented a proposal to incorporate Stare Czarnowo into Szczecin. Eventually, the proposal was not accepted. Gmina
The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). Kołbacz
Kołbacz (german: Kolbatz) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Stare Czarnowo, within Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland. It lies approximately north-east of Stare Czarnowo, east of Gryfino, and south-east of the regional capital Szczecin. It is located on the Pyrzyce-Stargard Plains, on the west bank of the river Płonia, and has roughly 1,400 inhabitants. History The area has been inhabited since at least the times of the Lusatian culture. The area became part of the emerging Polish state in the 10th century. Following Poland's fragmentation, it formed part of the Duchy of Pomerania. In 1173 it was donated to the Cistercian order (originally of Esrum, Denmark). Between 1210 and 1347 a large monastery (Kołbacz Abbey) and several farms were built in the area to house the monks.
