Gmina Skoczów
Gmina Skoczów is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland, in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. Its seat is the town of Skoczów. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2019 its total population is 26,943. Villages Bładnice and Ochaby are further subdivided into Dolne (Lower) and Górne (Upper) parts. The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). Wiślica, Silesian Voivodeship
Wiślica is a village in Gmina Skoczów, Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. Etymology The name of the village is of topographic origin, derived from the name of the river Vistula (Polish: Wisła). Some sources claim that the name is connected with the Vistulans tribe, however the village is too young to have existed in the tribal era. The name was mostly Germanised as ''Wislitz''. History The village lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. It was first mentioned in 1447 as ''Wislicze''. Politically the village belonged then to the Duchy of Teschen, a fee of the Kingdom of Bohemia, which, after 1526, became a part of the Habsburg monarchy. In years 1573/1577–1594 it belonged to the Skoczów-Strumień state country that was split from the Duchy of Teschen but was later repurchased. Wilamowice is a village in Gmina Skoczów, Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It has a population of about 543. Pogórze () is a village in Gmina Skoczów, Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. History The village was first mentioned in a Latin document of Diocese of Wrocław called ''Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis'' from around 1305 as ''item in Pogorsz''. It meant that the village was in the process of location (the size of land to pay a tithe from was not yet precised). The creation of the village was a part of a larger settlement campaign taking place in the late 13th century on the territory of what will be later known as Upper Silesia. Pierściec (; ) is a village in Gmina Skoczów, Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It has a population of about 1,918. It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. History It was first mentioned in 1550 as ''Perstczy'', with a strong indication that it was much older. Politically the village belonged then to the Duchy of Teschen, formed in 1290 in the process of feudal fragmentation of Poland and was ruled by a local branch of Piast dynasty. In 1327 the duchy became a fee of the Kingdom of Bohemia, which after 1526 became part of the Habsburg monarchy. After the 1540s Protestant Reformation prevailed in the Duchy of Teschen and a local Catholic church was taken over by Lutherans. Ochaby
Ochaby is a sołectwo in Gmina Skoczów, Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It consists of two villages: Ochaby Wielkie and Ochaby Małe. It is known from a large horse stud farm, one of the largest in Silesia. Etymology The name of the villages are of topographic origin, a plural form of the Slavic-rooted word ''ochab'', denoting swamp, quagmire or bog. The supplementary adjectives ''Wielkie'' and ''Małe'' mean ''Great(er)/Large'' and ''Lesser/Small'' respectively. History The settlement lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia.
