__NOTOC__ Gmina Oborniki is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Oborniki County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. Its seat is the town of Oborniki, which lies approximately north of the regional capital Poznań. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 31,541 (out of which the population of Oborniki amounts to 17,850, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 13,691). Gmina
The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). The gmina has been the basic unit of territorial division in Poland since 1974, when it replaced the smaller gromada (cluster). Three or more gminas make up a higher level unit called powiat, except for those holding the status of a city with powiat rights. Niemieczkowo is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Oborniki, within Oborniki County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. It lies approximately west of Oborniki and north-west of the regional capital Poznań. History The oldest known mention of Niemieczkowo comes from 1361, when it was owned by local nobleman Jarota Niemieczkowski of Przosna coat of arms. Niemieczkowo was a private village of Polish nobility, administratively located in the Poznań County in the Poznań Voivodeship in the Greater Poland Province of the Polish Crown. History The oldest known mention of the village comes from 1356, when it was part of the Piast-ruled Kingdom of Poland. Kowanówko, in the past also known as ''Chowanówko'', was a royal village of the Polish Crown, administratively located in the Poznań County in the Poznań Voivodeship in the Greater Poland Province. In 1857, Józef Żelazko established a psychiatric hospital in the village. Polish painter Stanisław Chlebowski died in the village in 1884.
