__NOTOC__ Gmina Książki is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Wąbrzeźno County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-central Poland. Its seat is the village of Książki, which lies approximately north-east of Wąbrzeźno and north-east of Toruń. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 4,299. The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). Brudzawki
Brudzawki is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Książki, within Wąbrzeźno County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-central Poland. It lies approximately east of Książki, north-east of Wąbrzeźno, and north-east of Toruń. History The village was most probably founded in the 13th century. According to the documents of the Teutonic Order, it was called Kl. Brusau, Klein Brudzaw, Browse, Bruschaw, Brusau. The name might come from „brnąć” – “to wade” – the settlement was located on the flooded areas through which inhabitants were wading. The land was cultivated only at higher elevation. In the 15th century the village was owned by Osieczkowski family. In 1561 Mateusz Osieczkowski sold it to Jan Działyński. Olędrzy colonised Brudzawki in 1720. Osieczek, Wąbrzeźno County
Osieczek is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Książki, within Wąbrzeźno County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-central Poland. It lies approximately south-east of Książki, east of Wąbrzeźno, and north-east of Toruń. It is located in the Chełmno Land in the historic region of Pomerania. History The first information about Osieczek dates from 1222. However, the village existed much earlier, which is proved by the remains of the early medieval stronghold. It was located on the shore of Jezioro Wielkie, about 750 m north-east of the present day village centre. The medieval fortification was surrounded by 4–5 m high embankment, which was made of earth and wood, which remains are still visible today, and by moat, due to which the fortification was completely cut off from the land. Łopatki, Wąbrzeźno County
Łopatki is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Książki, within Wąbrzeźno County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-central Poland. History In the distant past and in the period of the first Piasts this area was covered with impenetrable forests and impassable bogs, full of wild animals, like any other part of Poland at that time. It was already inhabited. People who lived there were providing the court with wooden paddles (“paddle” – “łopata” in Polish, so the name Łopatki stems from “łopata”). Łopatki is mentioned by the Order of Teutonic Knights' chronicler Konrad. He writes that Łopatki was under the control of the Teutonic commander who resided in Kowalewo and then in Grudziądz.
