__NOTOC__ Gmina Dobre Miasto is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Olsztyn County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. Its seat is the town of Dobre Miasto, which lies approximately north of the regional capital Olsztyn. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 15,920 (out of which the population of Dobre Miasto amounts to 10,489, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 5,431). The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). Smolajny
Smolajny (formerly ''Smołowo''; in German, ''Schmoleinen'', ''Schmolainen'') is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Dobre Miasto, within Olsztyn County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. It lies on the Łyna River, approximately north of Dobre Miasto and north of the regional capital Olsztyn. The village has a population of 720. History The Warmian village of Schmoleinen was founded in 1290 near Guttstadt (Dobre Miasto) and Allenstein (Olsztyn) by Ermland (Warmia) Bishop Heinrich Fleming. From 1350 it served as the summer residence of the prince-bishops of Warmia. It was destroyed by war in 1414, 1454, 1519–21 and 1709 and was rebuilt each time. In 1945, after the collapse of Nazi Germany, Warmia and Schmoleinen were taken over by the Soviet Union, then transferred to Poland as part of the Recovered Territories.
