Glyde Point, Northern Territory
__NOTOC__ Glyde Point is a locality in the Northern Territory of Australia located about north-east of the territory capital of Darwin. Glyde Point is located on land on the south coast of the Clarence Strait which overlooks the Vernon Islands. This locality is named after the point of the same name which was named in the 1860s possibly after Lavington Glyde, a former member of the South Australian Parliament. Its boundaries and name were gazetted on 4 April 2007. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Glyde Point had no people living within its boundaries. In 2019, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that consideration was being given to building a port facility within the locality at Glyde Point that could be used by the Royal Australian Navy and the US Marine Corps. Darwin City (referred to as ''Darwin city centre'' or ''The CBD'' (Central Business District) is a suburb in metropolitan Darwin which comprises the original settlement, the central business district, parkland and other built-up areas. Vernon Islands
Vernon Islands, also known as the Potinga Islands, is an island group in the Northern Territory of Australia located in the Clarence Strait about north-east of the territory capital of Darwin. The group consists of three islands which were first sighted by Europeans in 1818 on a British navy ship under the command of Phillip Parker King. The group were part of the subject of a successful aboriginal land claim which was resolved after 40 years in 2018 when the Tiwi people received title. All three islands host navigation aids which assist vessels passing through the Clarence Strait. Port Darwin is the port in Darwin, Northern Territory, in northern Australia. The port has operated in a number of locations, including Stokes Hill Wharf, Cullen Bay and East Arm Wharf. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. The Parliament of South Australia is the bicameral legislature of the Australian state of South Australia. Lavington Glyde (24 April 1823 – 31 July 1890) was a Treasurer of South Australia. Glyde was born on 24 April 1823 in Exeter, Devon. England, and emigrated to South Australia in 1847. Ten years later he entered the South Australian Legislative Assembly, in which he sat in every parliament from the first to the tenth inclusive. From 1857 to 1860 he represented East Torrens, from March 1860 to May 1875 Yatala, and from May 1877 to April 1884 Victoria. He was Treasurer in the Francis Dutton Ministry in July 1863, and Minister of Lands on four occasions: from July 1863, to July 1864, October to November 1865, May 1867 to September 1868, and October to November 1868, in the first Henry Ayers, the first John Hart, and the fourth and fifth Ayers Ministries respectively.
