List Of Counties Of New Brunswick
The Canadian province of New Brunswick has 15 counties. While they no longer serve as a local government territorial division as traditionally defined with shire towns or county towns, they continue to define a regional community. With the reorganization of local government legislation contained in the Robichaud government's reforms, collectively called the New Brunswick Equal Opportunity program, county municipalities ceased to function in 1966 and their councils were dissolved. Shippagan Parish, New Brunswick
Shippegan (incorrectly ''Shippagan'' from the French colloquial spelling) is a civil parish in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. Located in the northeastern corner of the province at the end of the Acadian Peninsula, the parish consists of the three main islands of Taylor, Lamèque, and Miscou, along with several smaller islands and tidal wetlands; Taylor Island is now joined to the mainland by an isthmus, which is crossed by a causeway. Extensive wetlands lead to a peat moss industry; more recently Spanish multinational Acciona has built a wind farm operation on Lamèque Island. Kiteboarding has been a successful tourist attraction. Saint-Isidore is a civil parish in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes it is divided between the Regional Municipality of Tracadie, the village of Saint-Isidore, and the local service district of the parish of Saint-Isidore (which further includes the special service area of Bois-Blanc - Hacheyville - Duguayville), all of which are members of the Acadian Peninsula Regional Service Commission (APRSC). Saint-Isidore, New Brunswick
Saint-Isidore is a community in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023. It is adjacent to the communities of Pont-Landry, Hacheyville, Bois-Gagnon and Tilley Road. The community is situated on the Acadian Peninsula. Saint-Isidore is in the town of Tracadie-Sheila's sphere of influence. With the population being Acadian, almost all of its inhabitants speak French as a mother tongue and are of the Catholic religion. The local school name is École la Relève and offers kindergarten through seventh grade classes. The main industries are agriculture, asphalt and services. Le Goulet is a formerly incorporated village in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. Located several kilometres east-southeast of downtown Shippagan, it sits on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. History The village was originally called New Jerusalem Settlement when it was initially settled in 1879. Le Goulet was incorporated in 1986. Sainte-Marie-Saint-Raphaël (2011 pop.: 955) is a Canadian village in Gloucester County, New Brunswick; its name is sometimes abbreviated Ste-Marie-St-Raphaël. Located on Lamèque Island, the village was formed by the incorporation of most of the local service district of St. Raphael sur-Mer and a small part of the neighbouring LSD of Haut-Lamèque. Contrary to frequent citation, it was not formed by an amalgamation involving a village called Sainte-Marie. For governance purposes, the heavily francophone east comprises the towns of Hautes-Terres and Rivière-du-Nord, while the heavily anglophone west is part of the Chaleur rural district. Nigadoo is located at the mouth of the Nigadoo River on Nepisiguit Bay, 15 km northwest of Bathurst and adjacent to Beresford. Lamèque
Lamèque is an unincorporated community in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held town status prior to 2023. Of Amerindian rather than French origin, "Lamèque" comes from the Micmac Elmugwadasik, a descriptive reference to the fact that "the head of the tidal river is turned to one side". The name of the island approved by the Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names in 1974, the result of a local petition replaced the earlier Shippegan. History A Francophone community, it is situated on Lamèque Island, off the northeastern tip of the Acadian Peninsula. Lamèque has hosted an annual baroque music festival every summer since 1975.
