Glorioso Islands
The Glorieuses or Glorioso Islands (french: Îles Glorieuses or officially also ) are a group of French islands and rocks totaling . They are controlled by France as part of the Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean in the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, a French overseas territory, but are also claimed by Comoros, Madagascar and formerly by Seychelles. They are geographically part of the Comoro Islands between the French overseas region of Mayotte and the nation of Madagascar. Archipelago The archipelago consists of two islands, Grande Glorieuse () and Île du Lys, as well as eight rock islets (''Roches Vertes''): Wreck Rock (), South Rock () and Verte Rocks () and three other rocks that are unnamed. Voyage Of The Glorioso
The voyage of the ''Glorioso'' involved four naval engagements fought in 1747 during the War of the Austrian Succession between the Spanish 70-gun ship of the line ''Glorioso'' and several British squadrons of ships of the line and frigates which tried to capture it. The ''Glorioso'', carrying four million silver dollars from the Americas, was able to repel two British attacks off the Azores and Cape Finisterre, successfully landing her cargo at the port of Corcubión, Spain. Several days after unloading the cargo, while sailing to Cadiz for repairs, ''Glorioso'' was attacked successively near Cape St Vincent by four British privateer frigates and the ships of the line HMS ''Dartmouth'' and HMS ''Russell'' from Admiral John Byng's fleet. The ''Dartmouth'' was repeatedly hit and blew up, killing most of her crew, but the 92-gun ''Russell''Duro p.341 eventually forced the ''Glorioso'' to strike the colours. Richard Glorioso is a retired United States Air Force Colonel and Plant City, Florida Republican politician who serves as the District 62 Representative in the House of Representatives of the U.S. state of Florida. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2004 and was successively re-elected to three more terms. He had served Plant City as a city commissioner from 1998 to 2004. Representative was born in Danbury, Connecticut on November 22, 1943. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Northeastern University in 1967, the same year he joined the USAF. He received his Master of Arts degree in Management from Central Michigan University in 1974. He retired from the USAF in 1994, the year he moved to Florida. Botafogo (local/standard alternative Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation: ) is a beachfront neighborhood ('' bairro'') in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is a mostly upper middle class and small commerce community, and is located between the hills of Mundo Novo, Dona Marta (which separates it from Laranjeiras) and São João (which separates it from Copacabana). The word Botafogo also refers to a Latin American ballroom dance move, named so because the area of Botafogo is where it originated. Etymology Botafogo was named after João Pereira de Sousa Botafogo (1540–1627), who was responsible for the galleon ''Botafogo'''s artillery. Because of that, he received the nickname "Botafogo" and included it in his family name. When he went to live in Brazil, the Portuguese Crown granted him the land known today as Botafogo. Tigres del Licey (English: Licey Tigers) is a professional baseball team in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The team was founded in 1907 and based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It is one of two LIDOM franchises based in the capital city of the country, the other being Leones del Escogido—the two teams share Estadio Quisqueya as their home ballpark. Tigres is the oldest team in LIDOM, and Have Won 22 LIDOM titles and 10 Caribbean Series titles. Some of the team's best players have included Alonzo Perry, Pedro González, Manuel Mota, Guayubín Olivo, César Gerónimo, and Elvio Jiménez.
