Glide Time
''Gliding On'' is a New Zealand sitcom that aired from 1981 to 1985. It was written by Roger Hall and adapted from his play ''Glide Time'', and directed by Tony Holden. The series depicts the working lives of four staff members at a government supply office in the early 1980s. The series was followed by a short-lived sequel, ''Market Forces'', set in the "restructured" public service environment of New Zealand's post-Rogernomics era. Over the course of its run, ''Gliding On'' won multiple awards including Best Comedy, Best Drama and Best Direction at the Feltex Awards. Jeffrey Thomas (actor)
Jeffrey Thomas (born 1945) is a Welsh-born New Zealand actor and writer, best known for his film, television and stage roles. Early life Thomas was born in Llanelli, Wales,Higgins, M.Jeffrey Thomas, ''nzonscreen.com''. Retrieved 12 May 2017. to a fluent Welsh-speaking family. His grandmother's interest in drama awakened an early interest in acting. After leaving school he trained as a quantity surveyor, but grew bored with office work. NZ On Screen
NZ On Screen is a state-funded online promotional showcase of New Zealand television and film. Funded by NZ On Air, it provides free worldwide access to NZ-produced television, film and music videos. Content is streamed and the webpages provide authoritative background information. The site was launched in October 2008 and is updated constantly. It provides titles in full or as excerpts, with background notes, photographs and profiles of key cast and crew. All material is rights-cleared and there is some content now on the site that had not been seen since its mid-twentieth century screening. In February 1985, journalists at the ''New Zealand Listener'' coined the term Rogernomics, a portmanteau of "Roger" and "economics" (by analogy with "Reaganomics"), to describe the neoliberal economic policies followed by Roger Douglas. Douglas served as Minister of Finance (1984–1988) in the Fourth Labour Government of New Zealand of 26 July 1984 to 2 November 1990. TVNZ 1 ( mi, Te Reo Tātaki Tahi) is the first national television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ). It is the oldest television broadcaster in New Zealand, starting out from 1960 as independent channels in the four main centres of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, networking in 1969 to become NZBC TV (although the individual facilities retained their call signs into the 1970s). Roger Hall (playwright)
Sir Roger Leighton Hall (born 17 January 1939) is one of New Zealand's most successful playwrights, arguably best known for comedies that carry a vein of social criticism and feelings of pathos. Biography Early years Hall was born in Woodford, Essex, England, and educated at London's University College School from 1952 until 1955, when he embarked on a career in insurance. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1957 and continued to work in insurance, also performing in amateur theatre in the city of Wellington. He continued to act while attending Wellington Teachers’ College and Victoria University of Wellington; fellow actor John Clarke praised his impression of then Prime Minister Keith Holyoake as the template for all others.
