Glenn Littlejohn
Glenn Littlejohn is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Littlejohn was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2011 provincial election until his defeat in the 2015 election. A member of the Progressive Conservative Party, he represented the electoral district of Port de Grave. Littlejohn had previously contested the district unsuccessfully in the 2007 provincial election. Prior to his election, he also served as Mayor of Bay Roberts. Following his electoral defeat, Littlejohn worked in the Opposition Office for a period of time. He contested the 2019 provincial election in Harbour Grace-Port de Grave, but was defeated by Liberal incumbent Pam Parsons. Bay Roberts ( 2016 Population 6,012; Census Agglomeration 11,083) is located on the north shore of Conception Bay on the northeastern Avalon Peninsula in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The growth of the local economy can be connected to the town's proximity to other major Newfoundland markets, by road and by water. Geography The town is connected by Veterans' Memorial Highway to Route 1 (the Trans-Canada Highway) leading to all points in the province. St. John's, the capital city, is only 90 km away. Argentia, the eastern terminal for Marine Atlantic's Gulf Ferry Service is 70 km away. Local businesses have easy access to more than half of the province's population. The 2007 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on October 9, 2007 to elect members of the 46th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. Campaign The election was called soon after Premier Danny Williams announced the popular Hebron Oil Field deal, and it was widely considered a foregone conclusion that Williams' Progressive Conservatives would be reelected. The 2015 Newfoundland and Labrador general election, held on November 30, 2015, elected members of the 48th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party which had governed since 2003 election, was defeated by the Liberal Party, which won a majority in the new assembly. The election had been scheduled for October 13, 2015, under Newfoundland and Labrador's House of Assembly Act, mandating a fixed election day on the second Tuesday in October in the fourth calendar year after the previous election. The 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on May 16, 2019, to elect members of the 49th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. Despite consistent Progressive Conservative leads in polling towards the end of the campaign, including a nine-point lead in the final poll released a day before the election, the Liberal Party led by Dwight Ball won re-election, but nonetheless fell one seat short of retaining their majority after an unexpected loss to the New Democrats in Labrador West originally in the initial count by five votes.
