Glen Edgar Edgerton
Glen Edgar Edgerton (April 17, 1887 – April 9, 1976) was a United States Army officer, who served as the Governor of the Panama Canal Zone from 1940 to 1944. Biography He was born on April 17, 1887, to Alice and John Edgar Edgerton. He graduated from Kansas State College in 1904 and from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1908, where he was first in his class. He was chief engineer of the Alaska Road Commission from 1910 to 1915 and the Edgerton Highway in Alaska is named after him. He also went to the military Engineering Academy. He served as Panama Canal maintenance engineer from 1936 to 1940. He was Governor of the Panama Canal Zone from 1940 to 1944. Parkerville is a city in Morris County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 46. History A post office was established in Parkersville on August 9, 1870, then renamed to Parkerville on June 23, 1892. The post office closed on October 31, 1953. Alaska Road Commission
The Board of Road Commissioners for Alaska, more commonly known as the Alaska Road Commission or ARC, was created in 1905 as a board of the U.S. War Department. It was responsible for the construction and improvement of many important Alaska highways, such as the Richardson Highway, Steese Highway, Elliot Highway and Edgerton Highway, among others. The commission was transferred to the Department of the Interior in 1932, and was absorbed by the Bureau of Public Roads, a division of the Commerce Department in 1956. Today, responsibility for road development and maintenance in Alaska lies with the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities.
