Glastonbury F.C. is a football club based in Glastonbury, England. The club is affiliated to the Somerset County FA. The club are currently members of the and play at the Abbey Moor Stadium. History The club was founded in 1890 and was originally called Glastonbury Avalon Rovers. After the turn of the century, the club entered the FA cup for the first time in the 1902–03 season, and had changed their name to Glastonbury. The club were playing in the East Somerset Football League at the beginning of the twentieth century, winning the league in the 1904–05 and 1912–13 campaigns. The club gained its first cup silverware when they lifted the Somerset Junior cup in the 1912–13 competition and retained this cup the following season. After the First World War, the club joined Division two of the Western Football League, for the 1919–20 season. Abbey Moor Stadium is a football and former greyhound racing stadium on Godney Road, Glastonbury, Somerset Origins The stadium was constructed south of the Green's Drove and Common Moor junction on the east side of the Godney Road in an area known as Common Moor. The Somerset County League is a football competition based in England. The Premier Division sits at step 7 (or level 11) of the National League System. It is a feeder to the Western League Division One and has promoted a club in seven of the last ten seasons – Hengrove Athletic, Portishead, Radstock Town, Oldland Abbotonians, Wells City, Cheddar, Ashton & Backwell United and Nailsea & Tickenham. Ken Wookey (footballer Born 1946)
Kenneth George Wookey (30 December 1946 – 16 December 1992) was a Welsh footballer and football manager. A striker, he spent six years in the Football League. His father, also called Ken Wookey, was also a professional footballer. He started his career with local club Newport County in 1964. After five years with County, he was loaned out to Lovell's Athletic, before signing permanently with Port Vale in 1969. After helping the "Valiants" to promotion out of the Fourth Division in 1969–70, he transferred to Workington. In 1971, he dropped into non-league football when he joined Yeovil Town. He later played for Salisbury City, Barry Town, Westland Sports, Chard Town, Glastonbury Town, and Sturminster Newton United. He later managed Sturminster Newton and Shaftesbury. David Stone (footballer)
David Kenneth Stone (born 29 December 1942) is a former professional footballer, who played 154 times in The Football League for Bristol Rovers and Southend United. He also played for and managed a number of non-League clubs following the end of his professional career. Career Stone was born in Bristol and attended Portway School in the city. He played as a child for Bristol Boys, and won the English Schools' Shield with them in 1958. He also played for Sneyd Park, before joining League side Bristol Rovers as a junior in 1959. He graduated through the Rovers junior and youth teams, and signed his first professional contract in March 1960, but it was a further two years before he made his first team debut against Northampton Town in August 1962. He went on to make 148 appearances and score six goals for ''The Pirates'' until leaving to join Southend United on a free transfer in 1968. Paul Randall (born 16 February 1958) is an English footballer who played in the English Football League for Bristol Rovers and Stoke City. Career Early career Randall was born in Sefton, Liverpool. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The Football Association Challenge Trophy, commonly known as the FA Trophy, is a men's football knockout cup competition run by and named after the English Football Association and competed for primarily by semi-professional teams. The competition was instigated in 1969 to cater to those non-league clubs that paid their players and were therefore not eligible to enter the FA Amateur Cup. Eligibility rules have changed over time, but from 2008 onwards the competition has been open to clubs playing in Steps 1–4 of the National League System, equivalent to tiers 5–8 of the overall English football league system. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football.
