Glasgow Southside (Scottish Parliament Constituency)
Glasgow Southside is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament ( Holyrood), being one of eight constituencies within the Glasgow City council area. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality (first past the post) method of election. It is also one of nine constituencies in the Glasgow electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole. It is currently the constituency of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who has held it for the Scottish National Party since the seat was created for 2011 Scottish Parliament election. Scottish Parliament
The Scottish Parliament ( gd, PĂ rlamaid na h-Alba ; sco, Scots Pairlament) is the devolved, unicameral legislature of Scotland. Located in the Holyrood area of the capital city, Edinburgh, it is frequently referred to by the metonym Holyrood. Glasgow Anniesland is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament ( Holyrood), being one of eight constituencies within the Glasgow City council area. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality (first past the post) method of election. It is also one of nine constituencies in the Glasgow electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole. In the first election to the Scottish Parliament the seat was won for Labour by Donald Dewar who subsequently became the first First Minister of Scotland. Govan (ward)
Govan (Ward 5) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. Since its creation in 2007 it has returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. The ward's size became smaller for the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, but it continued to return four councillors. Boundaries Located south of the River Clyde, as well as central Govan (once a separate burgh which includes the neighbourhoods of Drumoyne, Ibrox, Linthouse and Plantation) the ward also includes the areas of Shieldhall, Cessnock, Kinning Park, Kingston and Tradeston. The boundaries were changed in 2017, with the Bellahouston, Craigton and Dumbreck neighbourhoods south of the Inverclyde Line railway being reassigned to the Pollokshields ward. Pollokshields (Ward 6) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned three council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward increased in size and returned four members. Boundaries Located on the South Side of Glasgow, the ward includes Pollokshields itself as well as Crossmyloof, Strathbungo and the western part of Shawlands. Southside Central (Ward 8) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward population decreased but it continued to return four members. Boundaries The ward is located immediately south of Glasgow city centre, with the River Clyde forming its northern boundary. The City of Glasgow is divided into a number of wards. These electoral districts, as they are also known, are used to elect councillors to Glasgow City Council.
