Glasgow High Kelvinside
Glasgow High Kelvinside , often abbreviated to GHK, is an amateur rugby union club in Glasgow, Scotland. They currently play in Scottish National League Division One. History Glasgow High Kelvinside was formed in 1982 by the merger of Kelvinside Academy and High School of Glasgow rugby clubs; Kelvinside Academicals and Glasgow HSFP. Both Glasgow High FP and Kelvinside Accies were struggling clubs at the time: Glasgow High in the Third Division; Kelvinside Academicals in the Fifth Division. Impact of professionalism When professionalism was finally allowed by the International Rugby Football Board in 1995, Scotland took a while to adapt. The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; gd, Aonadh Rugbaidh na h-Alba) is the governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Styled as Scottish Rugby, it is the second oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. Scottish National League Division Three
The Scottish National League Division Three (known as Tennent's National League Division 3 for sponsorship reasons) is the fourth tier of the Scottish League Championship for amateur rugby union clubs in Scotland. Geographical Location The Scottish National League Division Three comprises the teams from both South, North, East and West teams located across Scotland. History Until 2011, the division was the sixth tier of amateur club rugby in Scotland. For season 2011–12, league reconstruction reduced the number of nationwide leagues from six to two and the division ceased to exist; however, further changes in 2014–15 increased the amount of nationwide leagues to four, and with it the National League Division Three name returned. John MacLeod (rugby Union)
John MacLeod (born 20 February 1973) is a former rugby union player Born in Scotland, he played for the professional Glasgow provincial side now called Glasgow Warriors - in the 1996-97 season; the first season of professionalism in Scottish rugby union. MacLeod played at the Fly-half position. MacLeod played at amateur level for Glasgow High Kelvinside; and was called up for the amateur Glasgow District side only once before the province turned professional. Scott Hutton
Scott Hutton is a Scottish rugby union footballer who played professionally for Glasgow Warriors, and at amateur level for Glasgow High Kelvinside, Glasgow Hawks and Irish side Old Belvedere. His regular playing position is lock. Hutton played for Glasgow High Kelvinside before its merger with Glasgow Academicals formed the Hawks. Gerry Hawkes
Gerry Hawkes (born in Scotland), is a Scottish former rugby union player for Glasgow Warriors at the Wing position. His career spanned the amateur and professional era in rugby. In 1989 he was playing for West of Scotland but in the same year he moved to Glasgow High Kelvinside. He was playing for Glasgow High Kelvinside from 1989 to 1997. Prior to their professionalism in 1996, Hawkes represented the Glasgow District. When Glasgow High Kelvinside merged with Glasgow Academicals to form Glasgow Hawks in 1997, the Wing played for the newly merged side. Chris Docherty (born 14 November 1976 in Scotland) is a Scottish former rugby union player who played for Glasgow Warriors at the Hooker position. He played once in the Heineken Cup for Glasgow, in the season 1997-98 against Leicester Tigers, coming off the bench. Glasgow lost the match 90 - 19 in the Quarter Final play-off. George Breckenridge (born 5 September 1964) is a former Scottish rugby union player and now coach. He played for the amateur Glasgow District side before playing for the professional Glasgow side, now Glasgow Warriors. Donald Shade Munro (born 19 November 1966, Paisley, Scotland) is a Scottish rugby union player, who played at lock/second row. Playing He spent two stints in New Zealand, in 1987 he played for club side Greytown where he went on to represent the provincial team, Wairarapa Bush in a Ranfurly Shield Challenge against the mighty Auckland, which included 14 current All Blacks at the time.
