Glasgow Celtic Society
The Glasgow Celtic Society Cup, known for sponsorship reasons as the Scottish Sea Farms Celtic Society Cup since 2018, is a knock-out cup competition in the sport of shinty. Entry is open to all senior teams from the South District playing in the Premier Division and South Division One. Ballachulish Camanachd Club
Ballachulish Camanachd Club is a shinty team from Ballachulish, Lochaber, Scotland. The club was founded in 1893 the same year as the Camanachd Association. One of the sport's most famous clubs, they won the Camanachd Cup four times before World War I. The club is also the most northerly of teams playing in the South district, the kyle at Ballachulish being the traditional demarcation point between the two districts. The club has moved to one team playing South Division Two in 2013 but soon gained promotion and re-established two teams, and gained promotion to National Division One for 2015. History Founded in 1893, and built on the strength of the men who worked the Ballachulish Slate quarry, the club won the Scottish Cup in 1899, 1901, 1911 and 1912. Strachur And District Shinty Club
Strachur and District Shinty Club is a Shinty team from Strachur, Argyll, Scotland. The club re-entered league shinty in 2017 after a year at abeyance at senior level as of March 2016. The side was put back into abeyance in 2018 before returning in 2022 with a combined team of players based in Strachur, Dunoon and Glasgow under the banner of Strachur-Dunoon History The club was founded by 1880 and there are traditions of annual games on New Year's Day, with sixty players from Succoth Glen alone. Two of the earliest matches in which Strachur took part were played against Glasgow Cowal. The first took place at Dennistoun Park, Glasgow, in April, 1880 and it resulted in a draw, four hails each. In May, 1881, the teams met again on Glasgow Green and play was stubbornly contested. The result was again a draw, three hails each. Oban Celtic
Oban Celtic (; ) is a shinty team from Oban, Argyll, Scotland. The club won South Division One in 2016. History The Club was founded in 1927 due to a plethora of players being available who could not get a game for either the senior or the junior side of Oban Camanachd. The Club were highly successful from the start, winning the Bullough Cup in their first year and reaching the Camanachd Cup Final in 1937, where they defeated Newtonmore. They won the Camanachd Cup five times in all, and they have also been runners up on four other occasions. They were also South Senior Champions 12 times before reconstruction. The Club has fallen on hard times in the new millennium, being relegated from the old National Division One to South Division One in 2004 and then being consigned to South Division Two due to a poor league position at the time of league reconstruction. Glenorchy Camanachd
Glenorchy Camanachd is a shinty club from Dalmally, Scotland. In 2022, Glenorchy combined with Taynuilt at senior level to field a team as Cruachanside. History Old letters and poetry show that organised shinty was played in Dalmally in and about 1880. These games were played by teams from each side of the River Orchy for a cup presented by a Mr Macdonald, who had returned from Australia. The contests took place on New Year's Day and continued up to 1932. While the game continued to be played in the district, it was not until 1947 that Glenorchy Camanachd was formed. After a period of some success in the 1950s, a severe shortage of players forced the club to fold in 1960 but it was re-formed in 1965 and has played continuously since then. As a junior team the Munro Shield was won in 1952 and 1959, the Campbell Cup in 1958, the Bullough Cup in 1973 and the Sutherland Cup in 1990. Kilmory Camanachd is a shinty club from Lochgilphead, Argyll, Scotland. The club was founded in 1977 in its present form. The club plays in South Division One and has a reserve side in the Bullough cup. The club is associated with Dunadd camanachd (the ladies team) History The original Kilmory Shinty Club was founded in 1914 and had success in the 1930s. After the Second World War, the club reformed as Kilmory United and played until 1955. The club reformed in 1977, the players being school leavers and some more experienced players who had come to live in the Mid Argyll area. This team disbanded in 1994 due to team raising difficulties. The present Kilmory Camanachd Club was re-formed in 1998 Kilmory have won the following major trophies since 1977, Division Two Fraser Cup in 1978–79, 1985–86, 1988–89, 1991–92 and 1999–00; Bullough Cup in 1979 and 1992. Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club (GMA) is a shinty club from Glasgow, Scotland. It is the only senior side in Glasgow and was founded in 1928. They have two men's sides and two women's sides. All GMA teams play at Peterson Park (Yoker / Garscadden). History Glasgow has had many clubs over the years including Glasgow Cowal and Glasgow Skye whose names reflected the Scottish Highlands, Highland area from which they drew their players. However, Glasgow Mid Argyll now draws its players from throughout Scotland. GMA was established in 1928 and won the Camanachd Cup for the only time in 1973. In the late 1980s the club were based at Allan Glen's Sports Centre, Bishopbriggs. Inveraray Shinty Club
Inveraray Shinty Club (Camanachd Inbhir Aora) is a shinty club from Inveraray, Argyll, Scotland. The first team plays in the Premier Division and the reserve team in South Division 1. History The club was formed after a public meeting in 1877. The club's first fixture was a 4–1 defeat by Vale of Leven in Govan. The club reached the Camanachd Cup final in the first season in which they competed in the tournament in 1898 but were beaten 2–0 by Beauly. The final was reached again in 1903 but Inveraray refused to travel to Inverness to face Kingussie after the first match at Perth was drawn, and the cup was awarded to Kingussie. The Camanachd Cup was finally won in 1925 however and Inveraray made a successful defence of the tournament the following year. In 1930 the Camanachd Cup was won for a third time.
