Gladiators (UK Series 5)
The fifth series of '' Gladiators'' (subtitled ''Gladiators: The Challenge'') aired in the UK from 28 September 1996 to 11 January 1997. The prizes in this series included a holiday at Sun City in South Africa for the runners-up with £1,000 for each of them to spend there, while the winners each received £1,000 for themselves along with a luxury four-wheel drive off-the-road family vehicle, which this season was the Ford Maverick SUV. For this series, the usual knockout competition was divided into two regions - North and South. Each regional area competition consisted of four heats, two semi-finals and a final. The regional champions then contested the Grand Final to determine the outright series champions. Eva Ulrika Jonsson (born 16 August 1967) is a Swedish-British television presenter and model. She became known as a TV-am weather presenter, moved on to present the ITV show ''Gladiators'', and as a team captain of the BBC Two show '' Shooting Stars''. Judith Earline Veronica Simpson (née Livermore; born 14 November 1960) is a British former heptathlon, heptathlete who competed at three Olympic Games. She went on to appear as Nightshade in the TV show ''Gladiators (1992 British TV series), Gladiators'' between 1993 and 1996. Athletics career Simpson was born in Jamaica, but brought up in Rugby, Warwickshire. She competed in the pentathlon at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and in the heptathlon and high jump at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Michael Van Wijk (born 30 September 1952) is an Indian-born English bodybuilder, professional sportsperson, actor and TV presenter. He is most well known for his role as Wolf on British TV endurance sports game show ''Gladiators'', a role he held for all its eight series (1992–1999). Career Van Wijk used to run a gym in Hayes in Bromley, London originally called Matrix and later 'Wolf's Fitness Centre'. It was open until the late 1990s and included facilities geared towards bodybuilders, boxers and general fitness. Suzanne Cox-Roberts (born 19 March 1972) is an English aerobic instructor. She was formerly a gladiator in the UK television show ''Gladiators'', in which she went by the name Vogue. Jane Grace Isoken Omorogbe (born 20 September 1971) is a British model and actress, perhaps best known as Rio on ITVs ''Gladiators''; she is a TV presenter and motorcycling journalist.
