Gizi
Gyzi ( el, Γκύζη ); is a neighbourhood of Athens, Greece. Etymology The area was named around 1925 after famous painter Nikolaos Gyzis. By all rights, the neighbourhood should have been called Γύζη (). However, due to the fact that he signed his paintings using the Latin alphabet (as he lived in Germany for a time period), this was reabsorbed into the Greek language with the current spelling and pronunciation. History and amenities Gyzi was rapidly urbanised during the 1960s and 1970s. On 15 May 1985 a shootout between Christos Tsoutsouvis (a far-left militant) and one of his accomplices on the one side and the police on the other side took place in the neighbourhood of Gyzi, resulting in four deaths. The nearest metro stations are Ampelokipi and Panormou ( line 3) and Victoria (line 1). Alexandras Avenue
Alexandra's Avenue (Greek: Λεωφόρος Αλεξάνδρας ''Leoforos Alexandras'') is a main east–west thoroughfare running from Patission Street/28 October Street and Kifissias Avenue in the northern part of the city of Athens, Greece. It is named after Princess Alexandra of Greece, later Grand Duchess Alexandra Georgievna of Russia (daughter of George I of Greece). The avenue has two regular traffic lanes plus one dedicated bus lane per direction. Its total length is approximately 3 km. Line 1 (Athens Metro)
Line 1 is the oldest of the three lines of the Athens Metro, running from to . The Athens-Piraeus Railway Company (SAP S.A.) first opened the line, between and , on 27 February 1869. On 4 February 1885 Lavrion Square-Strofyli railway line opened between Attiki Square and . These railway lines gradually merged and converted to a rapid-transit system. It was merged into the Athens Metro network upon the opening of Lines 2 and 3 on 28 January 2000. Network Line 1 connects the port of Piraeus with the northern suburb of Kifissia. It is built to and is electrified using the 750 V DC, third rail, top contact system, also used by Lines 2 and 3. Neapoli ( ) is a neighborhood of Athens, Greece. It is located on the northern slope of Mount Lycabettus. Neapoli means 'new city.' Polygono ( ) is a neighbourhood of Athens, Greece. In contrast to surrounding areas, it is not as densely populated, owing to a ban on the construction of multi-storey buildings. The courts for Athens are located in this district. The name of the area derives from a polygonal platform which once used to be set up for parades, opposite what are now the courthouses. The ancient name of the area was Anchesmos (). The Pedion tou Areos or Pedion Areos ( el, Πεδίον του Άρεως or Πεδίον Άρεως, , meaning ''Field of Ares'', corresponding to the French ''Champ de Mars'' and the ancient ''Campus Martius'') is one of the largest public parks in Athens, Greece. It is also the name of the wider neighborhood. Victoria Metro Station, Athens
Victoria ( el, Βικτώρια, ) is on Athens Metro Line 1, between Omonia and Attiki. It is named after the British monarch Queen Victoria. The station is underground, beneath Victoria Square, and was recently renovated. It is the first underground station of the northern group of Line 1 stations. The central station, Omonia, is also underground. The architectural style of the station is Art Deco and the walls are covered with light blue tiles in contrast with the tiles of the Omonia station, which are dark yellow. Before and after the renovation, the station's name is shown in big white labels that were made in Germany by ''Emaillierwerk Gottfried Dichanz''.
