"Give a Little Love Back to the World", written and composed by Paul Curtis, was the 's entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1990, performed by Emma. At the age of 15, Emma was the youngest-ever entrant on behalf of the United Kingdom at Eurovision. Selection process Emma won the right to perform at the contest, held in Zagreb by winning the UK national final, ''A Song for Europe'', where she was the fourth singer to perform. Like in 1988 and 1989, the winner was picked via a nationwide telephone vote, and Emma emerged victorious, receiving nearly three times as many votes as the second-place finisher (clocking in at just under 100,000 supporters). Emma (born Emma Louise Booth, 2 August 1974) is a Welsh singer, who sang the UK entry, "Give a Little Love Back to the World", in the Eurovision Song Contest 1990. This was the third of four entries representing the UK composed by Paul Curtis. The song finished sixth in the Contest, and climbed to No. 33 in the UK Singles Chart. Her backing vocalists at Eurovision 1990 included Sam Blue and Miriam Stockley. Biography Emma was born in Bridgend, Wales. At fifteen, she was the youngest singer to have represented the UK in the contest and only narrowly made the newly implemented age rule in the competition, where all contestants must be 16 in the year they compete. The song had an environmental theme. Many of the 1990 entries chose the momentous events taking place across Europe in the previous twelve months and European Unity as their theme. This is a summary of 1990 in music in the United Kingdom, including the official charts from that year. Summary The first year of the 1990s saw a total of 17 singles top the chart. The first, "Hangin' Tough" by the boyband New Kids on the Block, which became the group's second chart-topper, set the record for lowest first-week sales for a number 1, with only 28,000 copies sold. Although January is usually a low sales month due to it being post-Christmas season, the vinyl single had been in severe decline in the UK since the late 1980s. In 1990 New Kids on the Block released a total of three albums and six singles (not including "Hangin' Tough") during the course of the year. Although their third album '' Step by Step'' topped the charts, their follow-up debut eponymous album was re-released and made only number six. Samantha Zoe Womack (''née'' Janus; born 2 November 1972) is an English actress, singer, model and director who has worked in film, television and stage. Womack initially planned a career in singing and she represented the United Kingdom in the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest. Before Eurovision A Song for Europe 1990 The eight songs in contention to represent the UK were presented during Terry Wogan's '' Wogan'' chat show on BBC1. Two songs were presented during each of four broadcasts between 21 and 28 March. The songs were also featured in various programmes on BBC Radio 2.
