Giuseppe Montana
Giuseppe Montana, (; Agrigento, 8 October 1951 – Santa Flavia, 28 July 1985), was an Italian policeman assassinated by the Cosa Nostra. Life Commissioner of the Judicial police of Palermo, he was chief of the new created ''Sezione Catturandi'', which was responsible for the search of fugitives. In this role he gained great results, discovering Michele Greco's arsenal in 1983 and capturing Tommaso Spadaro (Giovanni Falcone's childhood friend), who became the ''boss'' of cigarette smuggling and drug trafficking. He collaborated with the ''San Michele maxi blitz'' of the Antimafia pool, taking part in the 475 arrest orders. He continued to work closely together with the pool until his last day, consolidating the relationship with that structure born with prosecutor Rocco Chinnici, engaged in the front line of the struggle against the Cosa Nostra. Expanding Bullets
Expanding bullets, also known colloquially as dumdum bullets, are projectiles designed to expand on impact. This causes the bullet to increase in diameter, to combat over-penetration and produce a larger wound, thus dealing more damage to a living target. Gaetano Costa
Gaetano Costa (; Caltanissetta, 1 March 1916 - Palermo, 6 August 1980) was an Italian magistrate killed by the Cosa Nostra. Chief Prosecutor of Palermo, he was assassinated by the Mafia on 6 August 1980 while browsing books on a stall located on a sidewalk in Via Cavour in Palermo, a few steps from his home. He was hit with three gunshots to his back by two killers on a motorcycle. The cause of that ruthless execution was the fact that he had personally signed the arrest orders against boss Rosario Spatola and some of his men while other colleagues of his refused to sign. Paolo Borsellino
Paolo Emanuele Borsellino (; scn, Pàulu Borsellino; 19 January 1940 – 19 July 1992) was an Italian judge and prosecuting magistrate. From his office in the Palace of Justice in Palermo, Sicily, he spent most of his professional life trying to overthrow the power of the Sicilian Mafia. After a long and distinguished career, culminating in the Maxi Trial in 1986–1987, on 19 July 1992, Borsellino was killed by a car bomb in Via D'Amelio, near his mother's house in Palermo. Borsellino's life parallels that of his close friend Giovanni Falcone. They both spent their early years in the same neighbourhood in Palermo. Ninni Cassarà
Antonino "Ninni" Cassarà (; 7 May 1947 – 6 August 1985) was an Italian policeman assassinated by the Cosa Nostra. Life Born in Palermo on 7 May 1947, he was Commissioner in Reggio Calabria and then in Trapani, where he learned about Giovanni Falcone. He was then promoted and sent to Palermo where he served as deputy chief of the Judicial police. In 1982 he worked on the streets of Palermo together with the agent Calogero Zucchetto, in the context of Cosa Nostra's inquiries. On one of these occasions Cassarà and Zucchetto recognized the two top killers Pino Greco and Mario Prestifilippo, but they could not arrest them because they fled.
