Alberto Bayo y Giroud (27 March 1892 – 4 August 1967) was a Cuban military commander of the Republican faction during the Spanish Civil War. His most significant action during the war was the attempted invasion of the Nationalist-held islands of Ibiza and Majorca at the Battle of Majorca. He was also a poet and essayist. Biography He was born in Cuba and studied in the United States and Spain. In his youth he joined the Spanish Military Aviation. He had his first flight in 1916. He was expelled from the Aviation after taking part in a duel. He was then forced to join the Spanish Legion in 1924, and participated in the Moroccan War, which he stayed for two years as a company commander. In 1925 he was seriously wounded in the groin, spending a year in recovery. In 1926 he requested to return to Africa, and was assigned the 3rd battalion of the Mehal-la de Gómara – which was part of General Capaz's troops – taking part in heavy fighting until 1927. Frank Giroud (3 May 1956 – 13 July 2018) was a French comics writer. Early life Giroud was born on May 3, 1956 in Toulouse, France. He graduated from the École Nationale des Chartes, and he passed the agrégation in History. Career Giroud taught History in Milan and Grenoble. Giroud was a comics writer. He wrote the text for '' Louis la Guigne'', drawn by Jean-Paul Dethorey. He also wrote the text for ''Mandrill'', drawn by Barly Baruti, as well as ''Oubliés d’Annam'' and ''Azrayen'', drawn by Christian Lax. In 2000, he created '' Le Décalogue'', published by Glénat Editions. Jean-Pierre Giroud (born March 13, 1938) is a French geotechnical engineer and a pioneer of geosynthetics since 1970. In 1977, he coined the words "geotextile" and "geomembrane", thus initiating the "geo-terminology". He is also a past president of the International Geosynthetics Society, member of the US National Academies, and Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Education and career Giroud is a civil engineer from Ecole Centrale de Paris, and he got his Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering at the University of Grenoble. He has been president of the International Geosynthetics Society (1986–1990) and director of the Geotextiles and Geomembranes Group of Woodward Consultants (1978–1983). Pavel Giroud (born 1973) is a Cuban film director based in Madrid, Spain. Career Giroud studied design and graduated from the Instituto Superior de Diseño (High Institute of Design) in 1994. He worked for a short period of time as a designer and art director in films and theatre plays. He then began to paint, working with the basic techniques and incorporating video into his work, before directing his first short films, featuring his friends rather than professional actors. From then, Giroud decided to focus his career on cinema. Giroud filmed only self-written scripts, until he read the script for the movie ''The Silly Age, La Edad de la peseta'', written by young screenwriter Arturo Infante. Fort De Pré-Giroud
The Fort de Pré-Giroud, also known as the Fort de Vallorbe, is a 20th-century Swiss fortification located in the Jura Mountains near the Swiss border with France. The fort defended the Col de Jougne at Vallorbe, one of the few points in the Jura that could be easily traversable by an invading force. It was a component of the Swiss Border Line of defenses. Built between 1937 and 1939, the fort covers the Swiss end on the Mont d'Or railroad tunnel and the Joux valley. It is armed with three artillery blocks for 75mm guns and two machine gun blocks. All are camouflaged, the artillery blocks as rock formations, and the machine gun blocks as houses. Deactivated as a military post in the 1980s, it is operated as a museum.
