Barry Girling
Barry Edward Girling (1857 - 28 October 1905) was an English-born international rugby union forward who played club rugby for Cardiff and international rugby for Wales. He won a single cap for Wales, in the country's first international match. Rugby career When Girling was selected for the first Welsh team he was playing for club team Cardiff. The team selection for the Wales squad was undertaken in a hurry, as the match organiser, Richard Mullock, had broken away from the South Wales Football Union to arrange the match with England. With no real links to any of the clubs outside Newport and Cardiff, Mullock chose a team made up of gentlemen players with connections to the old universities. Frank Aldous Girling
Frank Aldous Girling, FSA (1898- 1966). was an East Anglian farmer, photographer and expert amateur archaeologist. He provided photographs for several books about East Anglia, including Nikolaus Pevsner's ''Suffolk'', and his photography led to an important discovery of Bronze Age barrows in Essex. He was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1942. Personal and early life Frank Girling was born in 1898 at Moverons Farm, Brightlingsea, which was run by his father, Frank Disney Girling, who served as deputy mayor of Brightlingsea in 1897. In 1917, during the First World War, Girling was drafted into the Territorial Force as an infantryman and served in France. In 1949 he married Minnie How. Julie Girling
Julie McCulloch Girling (born 21 December 1956) is a British politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South West England between 2009 and 2019, and leader of the Renew Party from 2019 to 2020. Formerly a Conservative, she was suspended from the party in 2017 and in February 2018 joined the European People's Party group, while sitting as an independent. She supported Change UK in April 2019. In May 2019, she called on voters to support the Liberal Democrats, and in June was appointed as interim leader of the Renew Party. Life Girling was educated at Twickenham County Grammar School, followed by the University of Liverpool from which she graduated BA in History and Politics in 1979. Mary Girling
Mary Ann Girling (1827–1886) was an English religious leader, the founder of the sect called "The People of God", also known as New Forest Shakers. Life Girling was the daughter of William Clouting (or Clowting), a small farmer, born in the parish of Little Glemham, Suffolk, on 27 April 1827. She had little formal education, and her letters were full of spelling and grammatical errors, but she was considered to be quite intelligent. When she was 16, she married George Stanton Girling in the Anglican Church. He was first a seaman, then a fitter in an iron foundry, and afterwards a general dealer at Ipswich. She had eight miscarriages and two surviving children. Girling had a vision of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day 1858; by Christmas 1864, she began to believe that she was a new incarnation of the Deity. William Girling
William James Girling (9 March 1882 – 7 September 1973) was a Reform Party Member of Parliament in New Zealand. He was elected to the Wairau electorate in the 1922 general election, but was defeated in 1928 by Edward Healy of the United Party by a 3% vote margin. He was elected as Mayor of Blenheim and served from 1945 to 1950. For the , the Reform and United parties formed a coalition. Part of the agreement was that all incumbents would become the coalition's candidate. Girling stood as an independent in 1931 in opposition to Healy but was again unsuccessful, this time by a 15% vote margin. In 1935, he was awarded the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal. In November 1947, he was elected Grand Master of the Masonic Order in New Zealand. In the 1950 King's Birthday Honours, Girling was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for public services, especially in the Marlborough provincial district.
