Giovanni Raboni
Giovanni Raboni (22 January 1932 – 16 September 2004) was an Italian poet, translator and literary critic. Biography Raboni was born in Milan, the second son of Giuseppe, a clerk at Milan commune, and Matilde Sommariva. In October 1942, after the first bombings of Milan, the family moved to Sant'Ambrogio Olona, near Varese, where Raboni concluded his primary and intermediate school. His father's love for French and Russian classics made him read and appreciate Proust, Dickens, Dostoevskij and when his cousin Giandomenico Guarino, knowledgeable about contemporary literature and poetry, found shelter in Sant'Ambrogio too after 8 September 1943 armistice, Raboni met the works by Piovene, Buzzati, Ungaretti, Quasimodo, Cardarelli, and Montale about whom he said: ''I know I owe much to Montale, I realise this upon rereading him, even if I did not love him as much as Eliot and Sereni, but he affected me a lot... especially his expression of the limits, of the fact that we can ... Dino Buzzati-Traverso (; 14 October 1906 – 28 January 1972) was an Italian novelist, short story writer, painter and poet, as well as a journalist for '' Corriere della Sera''. His worldwide fame is mostly due to his novel ''The Tartar Steppe'', although he is also known for his well-received collections of short stories. Life Buzzati was born at San Pellegrino, Belluno, in his family's ancestral villa. Buzzati's mother, a veterinarian by profession, was Venetian and his father, a professor of international law, was from an old Bellunese family. Buzzati was the second of his parents' four children. One of his brothers was the well-known Italian geneticist Adriano Buzzati-Traverso. In 1924, he enrolled in the law faculty of the University of Milan, where his father once taught. Quaderni Piacentini
Quaderni is an Italian village and hamlet (''frazione'') of the commune of Villafranca di Verona, in the Veneto. It has an estimated population of 1,618. History The village became an autonomous parish in 1583. Its name, in Italian, means "notebooks". Piergiorgio Bellocchio (15 December 1931 – 18 April 2022) was an Italian writer, literary critic and journalist. Life and career The brother of the film director Marco, Bellocchio became first known as the founder and editor of the left-wing anti-Marxist political magazine ''Quaderni piacentini'' (Italian: "Piacenza Notebooks", 1962-1984). After the closure of ''Quaderni'' he founded and directed the magazine ''Diario'' (1985-1993). He was the first editor-in-chief of the far-left ''Lotta Continua'' newspaper, and he also collaborated as a columnist with other publications including ''Panorama'' and ''L'Unità''. Bellocchio published books with Mondadori, Rizzoli, Einaudi, Baldini Castoldi Dalai Editore, and directed the publishing house Gulliver. Giorgio Strehler (; ; 14 August 1921 – 25 December 1997) was an actor, Italian opera and theatre director. Biography Strehler was born in Barcola, Trieste; His father, Bruno Strehler, was a native of Trieste with family roots in Vienna and died when Giorgio was only three. His maternal grandfather, Olimpio Lovrich, subsequently became his father figure. Olimpio was one of the finest horn players of his day and the impresario of the Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Verdi, Trieste's Opera House. Antonio Alejandro Porta Pernigotti (born 28 October 1983) is a former Argentine-Italian professional basketball player, who lasted played with the Svendborg Rabbits in the Danish Basketball League. Novi Ligure (; lij, Nêuve ; pms, Neuvi ) is a city and ''comune'' north of Genoa, in the Piedmont region of the province of Alessandria of northwest Italy. The town produces food, iron, steel, and textiles. It is an important junction for both road and railroad. History The community of ''Curtis Nova'' in 970 was donated by Emperor Otto I to the monastery of St. Salvatore in Pavia, becoming a castle around the year 1000. Vittorio Sereni
Vittorio Sereni (27 July 1913 – 10 February 1983) was an Italian poet, author, editor and translator. His poetry frequently addressed the themes of 20th-century Italian history, such as Fascism, Italy's military defeat in World War II, and its postwar resurgence. Born at Luino, Sereni graduated from the University of Milan in 1936. In 1938, he co-founded the literary review ''Corrente di Vita''. In 1941, he published ''Frontiera'', his first collection of poetry. He was drafted into the Italian Army during World War II: captured by Allied forces in 1943, he spent the rest of the war in POW camps in Algeria and Morocco. These experiences formed the basis for his second poetry book, ''Diario d'Algeria''. After the war, Sereni worked as a teacher and literary critic. Eugenio Montale (; 12 October 1896 – 12 September 1981) was an Italian poet, prose writer, editor and translator, and recipient of the 1975 Nobel Prize in Literature.
