Giovanni Cobelli
Giovanni (de) Cobelli (24 June 1849 – 22 January 1937) was an Italian civil servant and amateur naturalist. After his studies in his home town of Rovereto, he went to Vienna to study natural history. On his return to his birthplace he taught at the technical institute, a position he occupied until 1902. He directed, from 1879 to 1937, the Rovereto museum . He collaborated with his brother Ruggero Cobelli (1838-1921), in various natural history researches, principally in entomology. Rovereto
Rovereto (; "wood of sessile oaks"; locally: ''Roveredo'') is a city and ''comune'' in Trentino in northern Italy, located in the Vallagarina valley of the Adige River. History Rovereto was an ancient fortress town standing at the frontier between the bishopric of Trento – an independent state until 1797 – and the republic of Venice, and later between Austrian Tyrol and Italy. In the Middle Ages it was known by its German toponyms ''Rofreit'' and ''Rovereith''. This town started to be populated with inhabitants of the prehistory with traces that were found where today are the oldest ways which belong to the actual main historical centre, around via della Terra. Ruggero Cobelli
Ruggero (de) Cobelli (5 April 1838 – 5 September 1921) was an Italian entomologist who specialised in Orthoptera, Hemiptera and Hymenoptera. Born in Rovereto and the brother of Giovanni Cobelli, Ruggero Cobelli was a physician. Entomology
Entomology () is the science, scientific study of insects, a branch of zoology. In the past the term "insect" was less specific, and historically the definition of entomology would also include the study of animals in other arthropod groups, such as arachnids, myriapods, and crustaceans. Bernardino Halbherr
Bernardino Halbherr (21 July 1844, Rovereto – 31 March 1934, Rovereto) was an Italian entomologist who specialised in Coleoptera and Heteroptera. Halbherr was an accountant. He worked closely with two other Rovereto naturalists Giovanni Cobelli and Ruggero Cobelli. Myrmecology (; from Greek: μύρμηξ, ''myrmex'', "ant" and λόγος, ''logos'', "study") is a branch of entomology focusing on the scientific study of ants. Some early myrmecologists considered ant society as the ideal form of society and sought to find solutions to human problems by studying them. Ants continue to be a model of choice for the study of questions on the evolution of social systems because of their complex and varied forms of eusociality (social organization). Their diversity and prominence in ecosystems also has made them important components in the study of biodiversity and conservation.
