Giovanni Brunero
Giovanni Giuseppe Brunero (10 April 1895 in San Maurizio Canavese, Piedmont – 23 November 1934) was an Italian professional road racing cyclist. Biography Giovanni Brunero was born in San Maurizio Canavese. He became a professional in 1920, coming fifth in Milan–San Remo. In the same year he was Italian junior champion, second at the Giro di Lombardia and he won the Giro dell'Emilia, beating Gaetano Belloni and Costante Girardengo. In the 1920s he was one of the dominant racers in the Giro d'Italia, with victories in 1921, 1922, and 1926. His other victories include Milan–San Remo (1922) and two Giri di Lombardia (1923–1924). He died in Cirié in 1934. Italian National Road Race Championships
The Italian National Road Race Championships are held annually. They are a road cycling race which decides the Italian cycling champion in the road racing discipline, across several categories of rider. The event was first held in 1906 and was won by Giovanni Cuniolo. At the beginning there were often back-to-back wins from many riders. Costante Girardengo made the remarkable achievement of 9 wins between 1913 and 1925. Perhaps if it were not for the First World War, which blocked the running of the championship for four years, from 1915 until 1918, Girardengo would have gained additional victories. Despite this, he also holds the record for most consecutive wins, with 7. After his winning streak ended, another Italian cycling legend, Alfredo Binda, won 4 races in a row. Costante Girardengo
Costante Girardengo (; 18 March 1893 – 9 February 1978) was an Italian professional road bicycle racer, considered by many to be one of the finest riders in the history of the sport. He was the first rider to be declared a "Campionissimo" or "champion of champions" by the Italian media and fans. Gaetano Belloni
Gaetano Belloni (26 August 1892 – 9 January 1980) was an Italian professional road racing cyclist. The highlights of his career were his overall win in the 1920 Giro d'Italia, the two victories in Milan–San Remo (1917 and 1920), and the three victories in the Giro di Lombardia (1915, 1918 and 1928). Belloni was born at Pizzighettone, near Cremona, and made his debut in the road cycling world in the wake of his elder brother Amleto. As an amateur, in 1914 he won the "Small" Giro di Lombardia and the Coppa del Re, as well as the Italian championship. Having avoided to be called to the front, Belloni won surprisingly, the overall Giro di Lombardia in 1915 (a feat he repeated in 1918 and 1928) and the Milan–San Remo of 1917. In 1920 he obtained his greatest victory, the Giro d'Italia.
