Gioele Celerino
Gioele Celerino (born 4 October 1993) is an Italian professional rugby league footballer who plays for the Saint-Gaudens Bears in the Elite One Championship and Italy at international level. Primarily playing as a , he was a member of Italy's 2013 and 2017 World Cup squads. Playing career At the time of the 2013 World Cup, Celerino was playing for the North West Roosters. He was the only Italian-born player selected in the World Cup squad, and one of only two players selected from the Italian domestic competition (alongside Fabrizio Ciaurro). Celerino did not feature in a World Cup match, but did play in Italy's non-Test friendly against England prior to the start of the tournament. On 25 January 2016, it was announced that Celerino had signed with the semi-professional Newcastle Thunder in England's third-tier League 1 competition. The Cairns District Rugby League was formed on 5 August 1918 and is the administrative body for the game of rugby league football in Cairns, Queensland. The CDRL runs senior, junior and women's club competitions and has its headquarters at Barlow Park. 2017 Rugby League World Cup Qualifying
The 2017 Rugby League World Cup qualifying process began on 9 May 2015 with the 2015 European Championship C. In August 2014, it was announced that seven of the eight quarter-finalists at the 2013 tournament would receive automatic qualification. Fourteen teams took part in the qualifying process to fill the remaining seven spots. Background Eight teams automatically qualified for the World Cup. On 11 July 1998 the first ever 13 a side rugby league match was played between Italia and Lebanon, which took place at Leichhardt Oval - Sydney - Australia, the match was known as 'The Mediterranean Cup'. A crowd of almost 10,000 watched as these two emerging nations battled it out in a torrid affair. Former first grade players such as Frank Napoli, Chris St Clair, John Elias, David Baysarri and Darren Maroon represented their country of origin. The 2014–15 European Championship B tournament was the eighth staging of the Rugby League European Shield tournament played in the respective European countries participating over 2014 and 2015.
